Guild Wars 2

Hey guys.

I’ve played a Guardian for about a month (started at release) and then I stopped playing altogether.
Well, now I’m thinking about rerolling. I deleted my Guardian to transfer to another Server for free but now I’m not sure what class I should be playing.
I played swtor a lot back in the day and I loved the Vanguard (Trooper) class.
High survivability, Melee/Ranged Mix (though I like Melee probably better), I was okay with tanking and I loved the pvp compatibility.
Is there any class that kind of resembles the Vanguard? My Guardian was kinda close but I want your opinions.

I would say give warrior a try. They have rather good survivability and great melee and ranged dps.

I heard Warrior don’t get so much love in endgame, esp. PvP. Maybe people were just telling me nonsense. That’s why I hesitated rerolling Warrior. Do they really are that hard to bring down?

Warriors are the best class for PvE content due to their damage output. Team-wise, warriors don’t bring a lot to the table, they just help speed up boss-fights a ton. In sPvP, warriors are viable up until pro-level (top 1000 leaderboards and/or well-known premades) but they are definitely the lowest tier. If you don’t have a premade team aiming to join in tournaments, you should be able to do pretty well as a casual tpvper.

Elementalist might be up your Alley, they can be built to be very tough, and can work well both close and at range (the only issue is you have to choose which before the fight)

The Engineer can also be very tough if specced right, and can move between ranges very well, it doesn’t really do melee, but bombs, grenades and flamethrower all work good up close and personal.

I’m really leaning now towards Warrior / Elementalist.
This game is surely not made for 1v1 but what are those 2 classes chances in 1v1s? Or does it come down to skill in the end?

Do you have any opinions on choosing a race? Or is there a place to look at the armor sets for each different race?

If you play2win, you would want to choose asura for spvp/wvw to have a slight animation obscurity advantage since you can’t really tell what those lil rascals are doing if it gets chaotic. I can’t recall a site with armors for each race, you may have to make each race and just preview on tp and/or vendors such as the tiered armor vendors in Divinity’s Reach for humans. 1v1 Bunker elementalists are really hard to take down and DPS elementalists do fairly well as well. Warriors, you really need to time all your bursts otherwise it may be a lost cause if your opponent is good enough. However, if you carry GS, warriors are really good at disengaging. This is for spvp though, I think they have a better time in open world wvw.
