Guesting
If you choose to guest onto another server, you’re guesting on it.
I wasn’t though, still put me on my home server.
No, it just put you on the megaserver that is more likely to have people on your friends list/in your guild. The megaserver system does that. So, you’re guesting onto the other server, but you’re still on the same map.
The only reason for guesting that I see at the moment is guild missions. You don’t get credit if you are not on the right server.

So every server has the same map now…?
It’s a bit complicated now megaservers have been introduced because servers share maps.
But I’ve tested it a bit by going to a populated map on my own server and asking what server everyone is on, then switching to another server and asking again it seems that most people on any given map are from the same server, so guesting does make a difference.
It’s just not guaranteed that you’ll be on a map populated entirely by people from the server you’re guesting too. If there’s not many people there everyone from all the servers will be on the same map.

Maps don’t change across servers. Just the players found on the map.

Guesting has been around since early on. Its not a new update.
I know it’s been around, but if it just puts you on the same map now what’s the point. It used to put you on a map with people from the server you’re guesting. It was used to go with PvE groups generally. But I guess you can’t do that now…
That’s what the big “megaserver” threads are all about …
It works really nicely for me btw, I run into guild members from other servers all the time now.
But you can just make a party now and join one person and there ya go.

You can still join a group on another version of the map via party join. But yeah, other than guild missions, there isn’t really a reason to guest anymore.
