Guide to making legendaries
Your best bet would be the wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon or http://gw2legendary.com/
There are also lots of youtube videos that they can look at that give instructions on ways to get certain items.
making a legendary is pretty straightforward, but if you want general advice, I advice doing the gated stuff first (map completion, wvw badges, dungeon gift and obsidian shards) and then focus on farming gold to get the rest.

best guide is just experience and farming for gold/mats. you also learn how to get mats cheaper, for instance it sometimes cheaper to turn cores into lodes. use gw2wiki to find the mats you need, and gw2spidy to find when to buy them at a lower price.
