I tried searching for this question on the forums, but the search function doesn’t seem to be working. Is there some trick to getting it to work?

I’m wondering about my guild bank and how safe it is to store gold/items in there. I am in a guild of real life friends, but I’m the only person in the guild who is on my server. So I can’t access the main guild bank. Instead I made my own guild vault from my own influence. I’m wondering if it is safe to store gold in there. Is there any possibility it could be deleted/removed by accident from the other members on the other server? Can I step down from the guild with one of my characters and still access it if I Re-represent later, etc.? Also are there any other issues/glitches associated with the guild vault?

Also is there any way to store gold in your own personal bank or is that just for items?
Thanks

If you are really that worried about it, just make a basic guild for yourself and use that vault. Boom, second personal bank

If you have a 1-person guild, you don’t have to represent it all the time, although I think you do have to represent when you wish to access it. In another thread a player mentioned that they accidentally clicked `leave guild` instead of `stand down`, so in this case, their bank was lost.

If you are really paranoid about making sure nothing is lost, invite one of your friends into this private guild and assign them a membership level where you have taken care to disable all of the abilities to interact with the guild bank. This way you won’t lose anything if you accidentally leave your own guild.

Since money is pooled with all characters on your account without having to stop at a bank, I’m curious as to why you feel you should store gold special somewhere.

I was wondering this too. my guess was to set money aside if they have spending issues. That’s why I would do it.

I would have made a personal guild, but seeing as with the megaservers, guilds may eventually be combined, so I wanted to use my influence toward something worthwhile assuming it gets pooled sometime in the future.

The specific reason that prompted this want of gold storage is that I accidentally listed something for way more gold than I intended to on the TP and lost quite a bit on the listing fee, so I’d prefer to eliminate an accidental mouse click fiasco in the future. I figured storing my gold in the guild vault would be a nice safety feature and not keep more than a few gold in my wallet/inventory on a regular basis.

Also, when you click “leave guild” on one character does that make you leave the guild on all characters?

NEVER click leave guild on your personal guild. You will leave the guild on all characters and unless you have someone else as a guild member who can invite you, that guild is gone. Permanently.

Even if you do get have a friend as a guildie and he still plays and can invite you back, you will not come back as guild leader and your friend will not be able to promote you unless you have given him the ability to also kick you (admin lower ranks)*.Which means you have to have someone you really trust or you might put a lot of gold and mats into the bank one day and find yourself kicked out the next. If you are not guild leader then that means you might not be able to spend influence to improve your guild, depending on how the permissions are set up.

*admin lower ranks- it says demote current members only from lower ranks. However in a guild I was in, a member was given this option and promptly kicked all the guild officers, including the guild leader, and most of the members so I would be cautious about giving someone this option.

Representing/leaving guild
If you click ‘Stand Down’ you stop representing the guild. This means you don’t see the chat, don’t get any active buffs, can’t access the guild bank etc. but you’re still a member. You can go back to representing them at any time just by pushing the button.

If you click ‘Leave Guild’ then you’re not longer a member and can’t get back in without someone inviting you. If you’re the only member and you leave then the guild is deleted and everything they had is gone, including any items in the guild bank.

You can represent different guilds on different characters but if you leave one then all your characters leave together.

Guild Bank
If you’re on a different server to everyone else in your guild then they won’t be able to access the stuff you put in the bank. But if anyone on your server joins or anyone transfers to it they’ll have access. The guild could use rank permissions to stop them but that’s up to them.

Importantly if they do take anything Anet won’t help you. As far as they’re concerned anything in the guild bank belongs to the entire guild, if another member has permission to withdraw items and does then that’s allowed.

So if you want to make absolutely sure it’s safe you’d be better off making a personal guild.

the trick to get it to work:
1) go to www.google.com
2) in the search bar, type "site:forum-en.guildwars2.com "
3) then type whatever you want to search for

to answer your other question: it’s not very safe. imagine you are living with a few housemates. there is the fridge that everyone uses, but you have a mini fridge that only you use and keep in the garage. how likely is it that a housemate will take a beer from that fridge?
there’s also the possibility that your bank permissions would be revoked.
I just wouldn’t recommend anyone keeping any person items in a communal vault. make a piggybank guild if you absolutely need the extra room, but even then I wouldn’t put the valuable stuff in it. you could accidentally leave, for example. or if your account is hacked, they will only restore your account’s contents and not your guild’s

Thank you for all this feedback. I didn’t realize how unsafe the guild vault is. Currently everyone in our guild is marked as leader. I do know everyone in the guild in real life and even if I was on their server would still feel pretty comfortable storing stuff there, but I definitely did not think about a possible account hack and Anet not restoring guild contents. That’s really important to know. I’m 99.9% sure no one from my guild is transferring to my server, they wouldn’t spend the real life cash to do that or would be interested in switching.

Also, thank you for mentioning this: “NEVER click leave guild on your personal guild. You will leave the guild on all characters and unless you have someone else as a guild member who can invite you, that guild is gone. Permanently.”

I had no idea this was the case. I’m wondering though, if I were to leave on my server and my friend on his invites me back, will my guild bank on my server still be intact?

It sounds like maybe upgrading the guild vault on my server wasn’t the best idea… only lost uhhh…. 2500 influence or so on that so I guess not that big a deal. Although the personal guild vault seems to have its pitfalls too.

I wish there was a deposit feature for the regular account bank. Would make it a lot easier.

2 things to consider in evaluating this for yourself:

  1. Your Guild bank (including contents) nor any guild upgrades will NOT follow you when transferring servers.
  2. Anet will NEVER restore anything lost from ANY guild bank (be it destroyed by accident, stolen by a rogue member or taken out during a hack). They may gladly roll back your account and storage ONCE due to a hack, but they will NOT revert ANYTHING to do with an associated Guild. Period.

you don’t pay 5% when placing a buy order. you only pay 5% when selling an item. you can store as much gold as you want on the TP for free. you just can’t store items for free. but there’s no point in storing gold there – your bank can hold as much as you can get, while your item bank can’t.
