Guild Information needed
Your server only matters for World vs. World (large scale PvP), absolutely everything else is shared across servers. You’ll need to find a guild that’s in the same region as you – if you’re in Europe and they’re in America you won’t be able to play together. But other than that it doesn’t matter.
As for guild chat and influence it used to be that you could join up to 5 different guilds but you could only be an active member of 1 at a time, by representing them. This meant their tag appeared next to your name, you could see their guild chat channel, access their guild bank etc. and it also meant you were earning Influence points for them. You didn’t need Influence to access any of those features but the guild did need them to buy upgrades (for example a brand new guild with no Influence wouldn’t have a guild bank).
Since Heart of Thorns came out the situation is a bit different. Influence doesn’t exist any more and guild upgrades are obtained in different ways. You still need to represent a guild to access some features (for example if you open the guild bank it will always show the bank of the guild you’re currently representing) but you can see all your guilds chat channels all the time, or choose which ones you see by using the chat tab options.

1. Now, nothing. For the first year or so of the game, it was a pain having a cross-server guild because you’d have to basically create chapters of the same guild, and it was kind of a mess. Now, though, it doesn’t matter what server you’re on; every member will have the same access to the guild and all of the things that come with it. The only thing that will be affected by being on different servers is wvw. So, if you want to join a wvw guild, then you’d be better off picking a guild that’s on your server. Otherwise, any server’s guild will suit your needs.
2. No, you’ve never needed influence to use/see guild chat.
3. Yes, influence is basically gone. Now, you earn Favor instead of Influence. Any old influence for old guilds is useless, except for converting it to Favor.

Also aetherium but that is less direct since it speeds up the mining rate.
I have a question that is related to this so I am asking here. If a Guild has influence how do they trade it for favor?
I asked ingame and was told to talk to someone in the Guild Initiative but I couldn’t find the NPC that they directed me to. Someone else told me to talk to the Guild Registrar. I would love it if someone could explain it to me, in simple terms, so I can stop running around trying to figure this out.
You’re looking, I believe, for the Favor Broker. The NPC should be in the Guild Initiative HQ in LA. Go into the instanced guild area, there should be a double row of NPCs in front of you. On the left, next to the guild Bank NPC should be the Favor Broker.
Note however that the conversion rate is 10k influence to 100 Favor. If your guild has less than 10k Influence, the NPC will not appear in the Guild Initiative HQ.
