Butterfly Sonata – Mesmer (80)
Can’t wait for the Revenant! :)
Curious to see if any other guild does something similar to this.
Looking at setting up a lotto that pays out once per week in which members pay 5 silver per number (1-100) up to 5 numbers.
The amount paid in is the amount paid out amongst the winners.
Should I be worried about either myself or fellow guild members being flagged for gold selling or what not?
I run something similar with my guild each week. We have a lot of fun with it. Members can contribute as much as they want to the prize, with a minimum entry of 10s. We also put in one extra number for a chance that the prize will carry over to the next week, where a new round of contributions get added.
we had a guild lottery in our guild a while back and it worked great.
What we did was find a decent random number generator on the internet.
each person sent 1g to a certain trusted individual in the guild, who then assigned a number to each person in the order they sent the mail with the sign up fee ( 1g).
Then the trusted person used the random number generator live (streamed the whole thing) so that all members who wanted could see for themselves. streaming was used to create more trust between all who participated that the winner were selected by random.
I doubt something like this is flagged for gold selling or whatever. even if that were to happen, then having to pay the lottery sign up fee by in game mail should make a paper trail to clear you from being flagged for gold selling.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad that others have done this to much success.
I really like the idea of streaming the number selection via the internet. Helps with the anticipation of the number selection.
The guild I’m on has done it a couple of times to raise guild funds. Basically the way we did it was that everyone sent as much money as they wanted to one of the officers, for every 50s there was 1 chance to win, then at the cutoff date a random number generator was used to select 3 people from all that participated, half of the gold went to the guild bank, the other half was split evenly between each of the winners.

I take screenshots of the roll for ours and then post the results on our forum. I use random.org for the number picker.
I don’t think my guild has ever done this in GW2 but several I was in did in it GW1.
Since you’re doing it within the guild one thing you could do to reduce the risk of being flagged for gold selling is to put the money into the guild bank and then give the winner access to withdraw it.
every other month or so my guild does a raffle, which is really a giveaway party in divinity’s reach with gold, minis dyes etc. And people “roll” numbers in /g chat to win. it’s pretty fun!
what we do is announce the prize, and everyone who wants it posts a number sequentially, starting with 1. the next person posts 2, etc. If more than 1 person posts the same number at the same time, the later one in chat posts the next sequential number. IE two people post “3” at the same time – the second 3 poster types in 4, and so on, so each person is assigned a number. then we just use a RNG program to get the winner. it’s active and interesting
My guilds been doing this for quite a while on a weekly basis,
each player deposits 1g for a ticket (max1) and 20% of the prize fund goes towards guild savings, its quite fun
