Guild Wars 2 : The History
start with threads in the lore sections of the foums and supliment what you learn there with the wikis for both gw1 and 2. I’ve been killing time at work reasurching the history and timeline this way and am feeling rather caught up.
Hi, I too am new to the guild wars universe. Check out http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storyline
That looks like a summation on the previous game and expansions. Might give you what you need.
Also, Im going to be suggesting in the Suggestion Forums about an ingame clickable/interact “repository” of this information so we could read this in game.
yeah, in not “hardcore fanatic lore master”.
but id like a general idea of what is tyria, its history, and where magic come from.
little things like that. that could be somewhere in the game, definitely.
like mass effect, a place where all your “aquired lore” goes.
but maybe gw is more about kicking kitten and read later (or never)

The link above has all the information you need.
the lore is all over the game, but it’s put in in a “living” sort of way. if you stop in a town and watch for npc’s having conversations theyre usually revealing history. most grave stones have inscriptions you can read that referance historical characters.
If guild wars was a series of novels GW2 would be like book number 9 or 10 in a series with all the stories that were told through novels and the various campaigns of gw1. The history is very rich and very developed. I’m not a hard core lore junky either, but once you scratch the surface it’s easy to get lost.
There is a good timeline on the gw2 wiki that covers a historical timeline showingall the major events from the saga as well as touching on a few we just dont get yet. developing lore appears to have been a huge part of developement and i give anet a kudos for it.
i just read the GW2 lore wiki.
its good!
but i had too look for it.
suggestion; put a wiki link at the start of the game?
so we know it exist.
i like to play the game knowing a bit of the background.
you do realize that in game i was sometime reading book talking about dates and years and i had no way of knowing what was the current GW2 year.
anyway. its maybe just me.
reading the wiki before starting the game would have made my experience cooler!
you can do wiki searchs whilst ingame. /wiki "example"
Tis only what you can do for all
