So… before investing another $50 into this game to unlock the 30 Hall of Monument rewards for my Gw2 account, I wanted to ask a few questions about how realistically pleasurable it is and if you guys think it would be worth the price.

Realistically, with all three expansions, how long do you guys think it would take a group of players to complete the 30 points required to unlock all of the rewards for a group of 4 players? What would the best way to complete these be? Is it possible to trade items to other players to expedite the groups clear time?

- Mini-Moa cross- expansion miniquest gives you 2 points.
- M.O.X. and Animal Companions give you another 5 points.
- Eternal Protector and Eternal Guardian gives 9 Points.
- Collecting Kurzick, Vabbian, and Obsidian Armor gives 5 points.
- Collecting 1 Destroyer, Tormented, and Opressor gives 4 points.

That’s a total of: 25

What’s the best/fastest/least boring way to unlock the remainder 5 for a group of people looking to complete this asap?

Edit
Actually thinking about it – What’s the realistic point value for only getting Platinum Edition? (Core + Eye of the North). It’s highly doubtful that we’ll be able to get the full 30 point progression with only Core and EotN, but we should be able to get the majority of what we want from it.

Start with the guide on the wiki. It covers everything you need to know about getting 30 points efficiently.

Regarding your other questions:

  • Some things will be faster with 4 and some slower. Faster: doing stories and other things needed to unlock steps, e.g. acquiring heroes and pets. Slower: acquiring minis & such, since a single friend with an idle GW1 account probably has enough birthday rewards to get one person most of their minis.
  • Yes, you can trade with other players to expedite the process, especially: HoM tapestries, Hero armor skin tokens, miniatures, and materials used to craft/buy armor or weapons.
  • It’s nearly impossible to estimate the time, because it depends on all sorts of factors that vary with each person, their schedule, and play style. If I started a new account, I imagine I could get 30 points in a couple of months of 5-10 hrs/week. Some people will need more, some less.

The mini moa chick requires a LONG cross-campaign scavenger hunt; I don’t recommend it for only 2 points, unless you cannot find a green mini for trade or donation.

Hm… that does really suck, I was hoping to get the Black Widow and other skins for my Ranger with all things considered. That being said, it looks like 20 points would be relatively easy to get with Base Game and Heart of Thorns only.

Getting the rare pets (is that possible without all expansions) looks to count as a rare pet and an animal companion, then training up 3 other heroes. Completing Tyria story, unlocking Luxon, Vabbian, and Obsidian Armor, and unlockign a Destroyer, Tormented, and Oppressor weapon (plus 2 more) = 20. It seems like a rather big chore to go from 20 to 30 without spending that extra Money, which sucks…

Would you guys consider the HoM stuff “worth it” to dump the $50 and hours grind into? Or just grab Platinum for the Fire Sword and call it quits? lol.

Can you get the armors with one char and the pets with other and still getting all the points as you got them with one character?

HoM rewards are account based, so multiple characters can work towards the rewards. You can talk to Kimmes The Historian in your HoM to see what an individual character has donated, or what an entire account has earned.

The HOM things will take you a lot of time to complete. It’s funny because I think the skins are worth it, but I don’t use it much. Mainly only on my new characters.

With that being said, is there something in HOM that you must have that an item in GW2 couldn’t give you?

Hey RAWR, there were a few skins that I wanted to use on my characters to be honest. Heritage Gloves mostly because they’re almost essential for my Thief armor set that I’m looking for. Inquisitor’s Gloves /might/ work, but overall Heritage Gloves gives it that balance that otherwise wouldn’t work.

Gnarled Walking Stick and Living Wood Shortbow would probably be somethings I used for my Druid Ranger Sylvari, and Fiery Dragon Sword for my elementalist and warrior (Duel swording fire and ice ftw). Diamond Aegis might be fun to play with, considering I don’t have any other good Shield skins. Icebreaker would be nice for my Norn Guardian. Lastly, all the pets so that I won’t feel like kitten for having empty spaces in my pets screen.

I doubt I’ll ever get access to my pets, but Fiery sword seems generally easy to get. How long do you think getting a Fiery sword would take?

I like the idea of the fiery sword, but every time I transmute to it, I end up growing irritated with the constant flame and switch to something else. If you’re already using the icy version, then maybe that won’t be an issue for you.

With the invention of Outfits, I find that I rarely use any of the free skins now, which I mainly used when leveling up toons (and I have 31). I like the axe, and will use it if the look fits the toon.

With all the things you listed, I really think you should only go for 10 points. I find the green staff and green bow a great addition to a sylvari druid. But the pets aren’t really worth it. I can understand having skins for weapons you know you’ll be using, but I doing you’ll ever touch the pets because you’ll find something better in-game. Go for 10 points. I can help you with whatever I can in GW1 for HOM, such as quests or extra minis if I loot any. If you need help and in NA servers, let me know.

I have helped out a few people to get their 30 points in HoM, really depends on how much time you can commit to playing the game and what points you want to go for (thus being said, I have helped those that have all campaigns)
If you ever need help with items let me know, I can help out any way that I can. I am on the slower titles atm as I am only sitting at 48/50 for HoM

Hey RAWR and Nythrilyn, thank you for holding out your hands, I’ll definitely let you guys know if I need any help should I decide to go for the achievements. If I get all of the games, I’ll probably go for the 30/50 Achievements, but I’ll probably stick to 17/30 until I decide to get the other games and play through them. (1 of each Weapon, 1 of each required Armor, Hero of Tyria, and Black Moa Pet).

Np at all. I can help you out with Destroyer or Tormented weapons (Destroyer being easier to get) as I think Ambraces are about 125-135ish Ecto for 1Ambrace. I find that doing campaigns to end game then repeating all the missions in Hard Mode is quite fast too. But I know that you can get your 30 points via only 1 campaign and if you aren’t going for GWAMM, then totally doable. Though my timezone might be way off from your own, in saying that, I can still trade you items in game that will help you out as well happy hunting ^^

- Mini-Moa cross- expansion miniquest gives you 2 points.

- Eternal Protector and Eternal Guardian gives 9 Points.

- Collecting 1 Destroyer, Tormented, and Opressor gives 4 points.

What’s the best/fastest/least boring way to unlock the remainder 5 for a group of people looking to complete this asap?

Estimates for someone who plays about 4 hours a day:
Protector/Guardian: 1-2 months (includes getting into the game)
Playing EOTN to unlock the monuments: 1 week
Moa: 1 evening for the moa itself and 1 evening for the prerequisite quest line in sorrow’s furnace. That quest line also yields one statue at the honor monument.
Animal companions: 3 evenings
Armors: depends on your wealth/sponsors. Kurzick: 1 month; Vabbi: 2-3 months, Obsididan: 6 months (this is like a legendary in GW2). If you have sponsors, a fraction of that time.
Weapons: Destroyer: 1 evening. Opressor: 1 evening. Tormented: with sponsor 1 evening, without sponsor: 2-3 weeks or never. Once every year, and just this week until Sept 1st, there is the Wayfarer’s Reverie quest chain active, where you can ge one tormented weapon per account as quest reward.

If you don’t really want to play GW1 but see it only as skin source and grind goal to unlock the skins, then don’t do it. It’s a game meant to be played. Usually, the veteran players took a few years to complete their HOM. Don’t expect to fill it within a few days.
