Can anyone explain how “members logged in” is measured? My (tiny) guild needs all the influence it can get – but we don’t understand it, and it doesn’t seem to match what we do.

Example.

The guild history log for yesterday says " 4 members logged in for 40 influence". Except.
There are precisely 3 of us in the guild, so “4 members” can’t be simply the number of different accounts that logged in.
On the other hand, we have 12 characters between us, and I know that at least 9 were logged in (and played whilst representing the guild, if only for a few minutes) at some point during the day. So it can’t simply be number of characters logged either.

What’s going on?

Influence from logging in is earned per day (24 hour period) and per character. So with 12 characters between you it’s possible to get 120 influence a day.

BUT there are some limitations:
1) The influence goes to whichever guild you’re representing when you log in. If any of you are in multiple guilds you need to make sure you’re representing the right one when you log out because the influence will be awarded automatically on log in.

2) The 24 hour period starts from the last log in, it doesn’t change with the usual daily reset. So if you log in at 6:02pm one day and then log in again at 6:00 pm the next day you won’t get influence that second time. You’ll need to wait a few minutes, log out and then log in again.

This is problematic because it means either you keep yourself to a tight schedule and log in at exactly the same time every day or your log in time will keep getting later and later and eventually you’re going to have to miss a day because you can’t make it.

Personally I recommend not worrying about it missing the odd day or character. Encourage everyone in the guild to make sure all their characters are representing that guild when they log out and to take a few minutes to log into each of them when they first start playing and you’ll still rack up influence pretty quickly, even if you miss days.

How long do you need to be representing though with each character? I have a bank guild which I rep into periodically to take things in and out. I almost never gain influence by doing this. And I do mean almost never, like once every month or two. The only times I have gained influence is when I represent for several minutes at least, usually because I forget and go out into the explorable area.

Several minutes, or at least one influence point earned by this character.

Actions, not words.

That makes sense. The game probably takes census snapshots every few minutes so you need to be on long enough to be “seen” and why it only happened when I forgot and started playing.

When I was collecting influence for my bank guild all I had to do was log in and the influence was added instantly.

That was only what you get for logging in though, I never bothered collecting influence through events and things and I’ve never watched closely enough to see how that is added.

Yes, that’s the sort of thing that made me ask the question. Because over a period of a fortnight or more, I’d been making a point of logging every one of my eight characters in, briefly at least, every day. And one of the other members logs in and plays at least one of his two characters every day (and usually both). OK, yes, I’ve since seen that there’s a limit of five characters per account giving influence that way – fair enough. But the numbers still didn’t add up – we should have been regularly seeing a minimum of 6 players logged in per day, and as many of 9 on a good day – whereas we were getting numbers of 3 or 4. So I tried logging them all in and playing them long enough to actually do something basic (such as kill a nearby mob). Again, things didn’t balance. I’ll have to do a little experimenting. I think.

Maybe a moderator needs to move this thread to game bugs.

My understanding was all you have to do to get influence is to log on. Some people are saying that’s all they do, log on with multiple characters and get influence with nothing said about staying on each character for several minutes. That hasn’t been my experience at all and it does sound like is bugged.
