How do you have 3.6GB of ram!? shouldn’t it be at least 4GB?

Specs to run the game are here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Running_the_game
Memory is 4 gb needed. If your computer is older, it may be time to plan for a new one.

Likely he’s running a 32-bit version of Windows, maybe even XP.

I like when there is a pc problem it always result to buy a new one. You don’t need to buy a new one. Now I don’t know if yours is a desktop or laptop, but you said pc and does generally mean a desktop. If your computer savvy you can upgrade your ram another 4 gb of rams should bum you up to a total of 8. For those sticklers 7.6 of ram. Anyways if you may or may not know, usually desktop with all of their starts up and what not takes about half of your ram so buying and additional ram will help with your situation. Also depending on you motherboard, if you can place a 8 gb of ram instead of 4 and 4 it would be better to just buy the 8 gb of ram and later up if you have the money to upgrade it with another 8gb of ram for a total of 16gb of ram, but like I said I don’t know the specific your hardware.

You probably do not need a new PC. I’m using an old AMD A6 and doing just fine. That said, if you are using 32 bit windows then you need to upgrade to 64 first, then get more RAM. Before you buy ram, read the motherboard manual to make sure you are buying the right kind. You may have to look online for the mb-manual. You can usually find identifying information on the motherboard, or you can google search the serial number.

While upgrading to a 64bit version of windows and new RAM may be a great idea, it all depends on his motherboard and if it supports 64bit. If it’s an older x86 motherboard, upgrading to a 64bit OS won’t do anything, unless his motherboard supports more than 4GB of RAM. So unless he has more information on what kind of motherboard, how much memory it can support, etc. there isn’t much that we can do to assist.

No motherboard that supports an i5 would not be fully 64bit (and thus more than +4GB) capable…..

RAM 3.6gb

reminds me of my Clamshell iBook I’ve had for 14 years. just because of the unusually specific amount (instead of 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / etc.). My iBook has a whopping 466 MHz and 320MB of RAM. Or, to use more common-for-today’s-market terms: 0.466 GHz and 0.32 GB of RAM

try turning your settings down. I recommend starting at as-low-as-it-can-go on everything, then increasing things one-by-one while keeping an eye on the FPS until you have something that looks good and stays at decent FPS.

The most we can do is suggest possibilities. His problem could be something as simple as bad performance from his ISP, which happens to be the cause of most of my own lag issues. He could have something in the background that is using excessive cpu cycles or even a ram stick that is about to expire.

While on WvW, turn down some graphic settings.

Try setting both Character Model Limit and Character Model Quality to low. While far from ideal, this alone will greatly improve the game performance. You can also hide the player’s name, this will help with your FPS as well.

I’m playing on a 5 years old low end computer just fine. Granted I don’t have the best graphic settings, but the game runs smooth and without any problem whatsoever. While buying a new computer probably will fix any issue, I wouldn’t consider that the default option. Some people just can’t afford a new computer, specially just for playing a game.
