HI new norn
Well for starters take your time. Really do not rush the game play your character and have fun. Don’t try to get the best gear as fast as you can and dont try to level as fast as you can. this being your first mmo take the time to learn the game and your class. It will be a lot more fun in the long run.
Gather gather gather. It only take a little time but can really help. Gather everything you can so that you can craft later on and also you can sell the things you gather to make some extra money.
This forum is full of information so try to search for things and also use the wiki. these two tools can really help.
Was looking for this post and finale found it. This should be very helpful. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players/first

Oh and be in a guild – an active one will help you learn and grow. A good site to help you look for a guild: http://www.gw2guilds.org/

Entering Adventurer: Hi guys!
Tavern Adventurers: Hi Norn!
Bad jokes and 80s TV reverences aside, welcome. The thread on only if you knew tips is priceless. Seemingly everything in this game can grant you XP. Since the game adjusts your level downward to match the local content where ever you are, if you want you can take your time exploring the world without the necessity to relocate to a higher level zone. I think I hit 80 while still strolling about in a level 30-35 zone (after I had done all of the lower level zones for all of the races, including their cities).
But the neat thing about this is you can pretty much play however you like. There is no fix quest chain to follow. If you don’t want to battle vicious hungry tackle bunnies so you can go on a Jackalope hunt, you can skip it. If you have the coordination of a medicated 5 year old just back from the dentist then feel free to skip the jumping puzzles if you stumble upon then. Join a party or go solo and pitch in on a fight you run across, doesn’t really matter. No class trilogy required, no must have builds so you can join so big group event. It’s all good.
Just enjoy yourself.
RIP City of Heroes
thank you all for the tips and i hope to see you in the game
Welcome to GW2!! I’m going to second what Uther said, read that post!! That “OMG, if you only knew this” thread is absolute gold. It has tons of little tips which took me weeks to figure out (oh goodness, the “deposit all collectibles” button, I didn’t figure that out for moooooonths!), and which are incredibly useful. Other than that, don’t be afraid to go out and experiment, and ask for help in map chat. People are usually pretty nice and will gladly explain stuff, or come out to help with a skill challenge or help out with a tricky vista point. Just go out, explore (even exploring gives you XP), and just plain enjoy yourself!
I don’t know what server you’re playing on, but if you’re on Northern Shiverpeaks, don’t hesitate to look me up.
And also consider joining up the “Operation Union – Bringing Players Together”.
