What’s invovled in getting the 25 or so points in gw1 to then get the rewards over here in gw2. Wondering if…one is nuts and wants all the ranger pets..if this is a viable road to travel

I mean it would definitely take time to get that many points. Especially if you never played the first GW before.

I would double check first to make sure it’s still doable. There was a cutoff point and I think it’s past that. As to the amount of time, doing it solo starting with a level one toon to get 30 points in the HoM would probably take several weeks of gameplay. Some titles take a LOT of money and some, like vanquishing all zones, are fairly labor intensive. If its still doable your best bet is to find a guild that is specializing in it.

Achieving 25 points on a fresh account is crazyness. Unless you find a guild that assists you at every step and dumps all of their golds on you, you won’t make it in less than 2-3 months of regularly playing GW1. I know because I had an account with around 100h of game time and achieving my 19 points took me 1 month, and the more points you get, the more effort it requires. Don’t listen to all the guides saying it’s easy, or fast.

agreed. unless you know someone that can hand you hero armors, minis, and enough platinum/crafting materials to get a lot of it, plus needing to finish the 4 campaigns, it would take a new person weeks if not months to get 25 points.

It doesn’t take long at all, assuming you know what to do. A few hours and you’ll be there.

Armor sets: Go for a handfull of the cheaper ones, not the expensive ones. Ancient, and Eye of the North reputation sets are all cheap, easy to make. With Asura, Norn, Monument, Ancient, and one more random one, you’re at 4 points

Hero statues: These are incredibly easy. Grab a ranger secondary, and tame a Black Moa, Imperial Phoenix, both in Factions storyline, and then any random common pet. Complete the quest to get M.O.X. Get every hero that can get it, Stolen Sunspear Armor for 5 Nightfall heroes. Get Brotherhood Armor for every EoTN hero. 7 points.

Titles: Linking accounts gives you points automatically. Then beat every campaign mission, in normal and hard mode, with bonus/masters. It’s pretty easy with heroes, and will get you 9 titles. Get one more random statue to bring it up to 10. 9 points.

Weapons: If you do all the War in Kryta quests, in hard mode, you’ll make enough for 1 Oppressor Weapon. Destroyer Weapons are incredibly easy to craft, and you only need 1. 3 points

Miniatures: This is really the hard one, for someone jumping in to the game now. One rare, and one unique (a gold and a green) mini, and you’ve got 3 points.

4 from Armor, 7 from heroes, 3 from weapons, 3 from miniatures, 9 from titles. 4+7+3+3+9 = 26 points.

Completion time: Nightfall Campaign, 20 hours. Eye of the North: 6 hours. Factions campaign, 3 hours. Prophecies campaign, 8 hours. Challenge missions: 3 hours. War in Kryta, 3 hours.

43 played hours total.

Crafting: Depends a lot on your profession and selection. I’d do it on a ranger, as they’ve got pretty common ingredients for pretty cheap armor. With 100k from storybooks, MOX, and Bonus Mission Pack, plus ~20k from nightfall treasures, you can do 2.5 sets of armor. ALWAYS SKIP HEADGEAR. That saves you a good amount per set. Assuming you looted enemies, did quests, and otherwise made money while beating all three campaigns in normal and hard mode, you should have enough to do at least one other 40k cost armor set.

So, you’re left to your own devices to farm 2 more armor sets, and one destroyer weapon. Use your heroes to vanquish zones in Cantha for Kurzick or Luxon faction, turn the faction into Amber/Jadeite, and sell those to a rare material vendor for about 1k a piece. I’d say no more than 20 hours to farm out 100k would be needed.

63 played hours total, 26 points.

If only someone coming into the game and just starting out in GW1 could learn the builds, the Hero AI, the Henchman AI, the best routes, and the best group to bring to get through each Prophecy, Factions, Nightfall, and EotN Missions in both Normal and Hard Mode. Then how to get through each of the Winds of Change mission in Normal and Hard.

Then, they’d have to learn the economy to see what farms and sell the best, probably still stuff out of the Underworld which they’ll have to learn the best paths to farm that out. This would be to get enough Platinum for one armor set, and they’ll need more then one. Then they’ll need to farm the weapons. On top of that, the cheaper armors from EotN, they’ll have to learn the best method to farm the necessary reputations and that will often require filling multiple Hero books.

Now for the Hero statues, you’ll be needing to first get through the story and the quests to acquire them all. You’ll have to finish the Factions story to get the Phoenix pet or unlock it in the Menagerie. Once you have the Heroes, you’ll need to learn the best way to farm the armor pieces to get them their unique armor so that they can be displayed. You could buy it, but that factors into the economy portion noted above.

Miniatures….this will cost you an arm and a leg and likely a torso. You will need more gold to acquire the necessary number of miniatures then you will for the armors.

You’re not doing this in 63 hours, certainly not if you’re new to the game.

actually a black Moa chick is really easy to get . its more of a run around than anything else and you dont even have to be the one with the Final Assult quest to get it to hatch . although doing the Sorrows furnace quests and FA wouldent be a bad idea for the statue .

I had forgot about the Black Moa Chick. That makes things even easier.

As for learning builds, http://www.gwpvx.com Just get the skills, the runes aren’t really important.

Start in Nightfall. Do the tutorial, finish the mission. Take bounties and do, but do not turn in all side quests in Plains of Jarin, Kamadan, and Sunspear Sanctuary. Reach rank 4 in the sunspear title track. Turn in all quests, pick up your attribute points from Sunspear Sanctuary. Do the rest of the storyline you need to get yourself to level 10.

At level 10, go to Eye of the North, via the quest in Kamadan from Bendah. Follow the storyline until you’re in Gunnar’s Hold, where you talk to Kilroy Stonekin. Do the dwarven boxing quests, up to, and then repeat "Kilroy’s Punchout Extravaganza" until level 20. Do the Norn Fighting Tournament for the two heroes, Kahmu and Xandra.

Now, you have a Mesmer, a Monk, a Ritualist, and an Elementalist hero. Go back to the Nightfall story, and use as many of your high level heroes as you can, and only the low level ones when required. When turning in quests, kick all the level 20 ones, and bring the low level ones. This will level up your heroes.

Complete the storyline for Nightfall in Normal Mode. Get all treasures. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Treasure At the end, grab the heroes you didn’t get, and finish up their primary quests/missions. Remember to get Razzah and Norgu, they’re especially useful. Do the Bonus Mission Pack, with discoveries. Equip your heroes with generic max damage weapons from that.

Do Prophecies in Normal Mode. Buy a run to Ascalon City from Lions Arch, or walk yourself. Use your low level heroes on low level missions, if you have any. Do factions in Normal Mode. Remember to get the Ranger secondary and tame the Phoenix and Black Moa. Do the Eye of the North storyline.

Now do it all again, in hard mode. Use http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_7_Hero_Player_Support Don’t worry about the suggested gear, it’s really not important.

Now that that’s all done, farm out your hero armor. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Glint%27s_Challenge http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dajkah_Inlet

Finish your MOX quest. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zinn%27s_Task

Do the War in Kryta quests. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/War_in_Kryta/Walkthrough

Then seriously, just vanquish Morostav Trail. A minimum of 1345 gold for completing, plus loot. 20k kurzick faction per run, is 4 amber chunks. Usually floating around 1-1.5k when sold to the rare materials vendor. Speed clears take 15 minutes. A person with heroes can do it in 30. 5-7k plus loot in 30 minutes, constantly, with no RNG. Beats ecto farming, any day.

http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/
Type in Roeth Larelynn as the name, and you’ll see one of my work in progress accounts, where I’ve done exactly what I just described. Only I had a friend trade me a Torment weapon for my oppressor weapon, because I like the look better.

Took me, casually playing solo, about 50 hours. To wrap it up to 30 points, I plan on vanquishing and cartographer, EoTN titles, one more hero armor, and I’ll need a new oppressor weapon.

Can’t really get much more comprehensive than that ^^^^^

I would add a bit more on just to get used to the game and find everything, if you want to do it just make sure you use the wiki plenty, everything is known on there so save yourself time and just look everything up straight away

Also make some friends, players are far more powerful than heroes so if you can get a few to help you will do things faster.

I didn’t cheat with PvX builds. Heck, I don’t know how many of them I *created*... Myself and my friend Johan have been finding ways to exploit synergy in skills for years. I was running discord before it was cool. I had Spirit Spam on a ranger, taking advantage of expertise, from the moment they updated Signet of Spirits. Even back in the day when it was simple builds, like minion bombers and splinter/barrage.

As for accounts, I’m pretty sure you can still buy GW1 and fill your HoM. Would be kind of dumb if you couldn’t.

Oh My God
Splinter Barrage was like the best thing. When ritualists came out, I first wanted to spam spirits all over, but they weren’t mobile.
Then I made my ranger a R/rit. Oh dear, that was the best day.

I mean, ritualists became amazing, and many cool builds could be made throughout GW’s updates, but splinter/barrage was one of those ones that just shouted at you "Please use me and laugh maniacally as the entire screen fills with damage numbers".

Don’t underestimate how much time all of the above takes, especially if you’re on a fresh account with only a few skills unlocked. You’ll end up making many many detours to get decent skills for your heroes.
I had a lot of fun last spring reviving my GW account and running through on a newly created mesmer (probably the most OP class for PvE there), but even with most skills already unlocked I spent a few hours running to out-of-the-way places to capture elite skills (You get Elite skills from bosses in GW1)

If you WANT to play GW1, go for it, but if it’s only a chore to get a white raven in GW2, is it really worth the money and effort?

There’s never really a point when you’ll have trouble finding all the basic elites you need befor Hard Mode. If you’re really in a pinch, you just Disco. http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_3_Hero_Discordway

Every account is given 50 tournament reward points at the start, just by talking to High Priest Zhang in the Great Temple of Balthazar. If you exchange those for Golden Flames of Balthazar, you can unlock 3 elite skills for your account. Aura of the Lich, Signet of Spirits, and Panic are the three I’d go with. Get your panic mesmer, spirit spammer, and minion bomber all put together early.

Hero skill points will help flesh you out, and you get them from Nightfall, that’s why I always say start there. You save prophecies for last, because it’s often the hardest without skills, so having the skill selection from the last two campaigns at your fingers helps greatly.

Also there is no way a new player is getting 30 points in less than 100 hours. It took me around that and I got a bunch of handouts from people. In the months before launch I saw numerous fresh people grinding 30 points and it took them all at least that long. Doing pvp for hero skills is going to take even longer now.

Well Nels said you can use the tournament reward points for elite skills for your heroes. I used those points on z keys which bought a good number of the minis I needed. When I did my grind doing JQ was a relatively fast and painless way to unlock the bars needed for 7hps which made the rest of the game much easier. I’m guessing queues will be much longer now though.

You don’t ever have to touch pvp to get 30 points in GW1, you really don’t even have to do all the campaigns (although its far easier and faster if you do). As far as unlocking the skills, there’s an easier and instant way to do it if you don’t mind spending the money: buy the unlock packs, and wa-la! You have heroes with access to every skill in the game, problem solved, now jump out there and get to farming lol.

They didn’t say you can’t do it (you can) they just said they are fully aware it takes too much time and effort for most people who have never played GW1 to consider it worthwhile but they have no intention of changing it.

They don’t want to stop new players getting those rewards (or existing players like me who want the last few points and didn’t have time before GW2 launched) BUT they don’t want people to be able to buy the game, sit down with it for a weekend and walk away with all the rewards. They want to keep them for people who have put a considerable amount of time and effort into the game.

(Actually I suspect originally the idea was to give existing players an incentive to move over to GW2, so they wouldn’t feel like they were throwing away up to 7 years of achivements to start from scratch.)

Either that or you’re thinking of name reservations, which did have a time limit on them and have now ended.)

Although I have gotten a lot of use from mine. It’s nice, especially at lower levels, to have an alternative choice for armor and some of the weapon skins are really nice.
