Having a leveling race with my friend, tips?
Since he has an 80 and you don’t he’s going to have a big advantage with crafting materials. If he decides to go that route you won’t beat him.
It depends on the rules of this “race”. If there are any. If you have money, nothing beats crafting at leveling speed. If you don’t, I’d recommend skipping everything but hearts on whatever map you’re on, and participating in whatever events you come across. Except escort events. They will likely take more time than they are worth in a race.

I was wondering about that crafting thing, we’ll set a rule on that. We’re good friends and we’ll be in the same room so I don’t suspect any shenanigans. What about class/profession however?
If you’re starting at level 1…my personal recommendation would have to be either thief or guardian. Assuming you avoid champions and other such bad guys, there is barely anything that can get in the way of a guardian in the lower levels. Additionally, a thief using a dagger main hand and pistol offhand can deal a lot of damage and protect itself with near constant blinding. Again though, this is only my personal thoughts.

I would probably go with a GS + whatever (dual axe maybe) warrior.
Alright thanks guys, I’ll try some of this out. And do you really think survivability is big of an issue or wouldn’t more damage output be better?
Go glass or go home.
Go glass or go home.
I can’t agree with this. Survivability may not need to be your primary concern, but it does matter. Seems detrimental to a race if you get killed everytime things gang up on you.

Lower level pve is generally less than dangerous. Even if you die it’s like a 20 second walk back from a WP. Unless you are dying constantly (shouldn’t be even as 100% glass) the extra kill speed seems better to me.
Wait until he goes to the bathroom, open his computer and sneak into it some file with a shutdown command to his computer. How you do it is up to you, but you can find lots of tips on the internet. For bonus points, make it happen 15 mins after start up, just so he has enough time to log into gw2 before the computer shutsdown.
Trust me, you will win that race!

Haha, great advice, Kthr
