Heart of maguuma events, reason for doing is?
Fun, achievements (there are mastery points if you do the whole chain in an area – like doing the whole chain that helps the Jaka Itzel in Verdant Brink), map tokens that are needed for bartering for stuff from minis to skins to pieces for legendaries, drops that can be salvaged for crafting materials, and more content to do besides just running around for map completion or story.
In the case of Verdant Brink, a successful daytime and successful nighttime run can result in armor chests that you can’t get easily any other way. Doing event chains will help move along the map meta event, which can yield you some items only obtainable from a certain boss/fight.
At least, these are the reasons that I do them more often than not, though it doesn’t mean I do every event on the map everytime. Sometimes it’s just doing the chains that I encounter on my way through to other objectives.

They give the map’s currency and keys, which are valuable for all sorts of rewards.
VB isn’t the only map with a meta. In all the HoT maps, the sub-events add up to getting allies added to your efforts that improve your chances of dealing with the main end fight. Each map has an overall story that the meta cycle tells, too, so if you follow each event chain from start to finish, over time you’ll learn a lot more of the lore of what’s going on.
Okay, Im a new player so this maguuma thing is kinda overwhelming me. Events everywhere, followed by big runs rewarded by tons of trash from chests.
What is exactly the point people are doing these, leveling? or because they want something specific of that currency?
Am I missing some bigger picture?
And dont get me wrong, I plan to do every series of events just for FUN but Im just wondering if there is any REASON to do them other than leveling and currency items.
Collections, achievements, legendary weapons, mastery experience. Once you start digging into these, the collections and legendary weapons especially require quite a bit of time spent in the maps from unlocking the masteries to gaining a ton of map currency to purchase all the required items.
