Heart of thorns, guilds and WvW
Maeg Areo Hotah
Most guild functions have been changed since HoT came out.

I would read through a lot of this. I know you need the expansion to use a lot of guild functions…and, certain things like claiming camps require minimum guild levels.
Not sure if you’re totally screwed, but I would read some of the wiki.
Te Nosce [TC]
In regards to claiming stuff in wvw. even with the recent nerf you and your wife will have to slave away for about 5 years in order to unlock all the guild buffs you lost. HoT has no effect upon them. All HoT does for WvW is Introduce some very op classes.
Thanks for the info guys. Anet… I will not be buying the expansion.

While this will seem harsh, if that’s your outlook of the game, I’d shelve GW2 indefinitely and find a game to replace it. Without the expansion, you will no longer have access to any new content (recurrent festivals are not “new”) that is gated behind the expansion.

I think the previous poster might have mislead you. I would, in your shoes, read some of the other threads about the expansion (in the HoT folder). A lot of people love the expansion, including people in small guilds. Some hate it. Some people feel betrayed.
My take: if you enjoyed GW2 before, you’ll enjoy it more with gliding, autolooting, and (once you learn the new areas), the new challenges. For me, it was great value for the cost (although, not nearly as good a value as the original game was.)
It’s up to you, of course.

What a strange reaction. HoT was the update that changed how Guilds work yes, but that doesn’t mean that its not worth buying. It does bring a lot of content to the table. A new profession, elite specs, 4 new maps, guild halls (which are pretty kitten cool), new stat combinations for armor and weapons, new runes, masteries (and gliding, which is so kitten fun), new achievements, new weapon and armor sets and lots of new collection achievements (which for me are a lot of fun). And even if you don’t buy it your guild won’t magically go back to how it was before, so this isn’t even rational.
