Hello Everyone. :]
A few things I learned that I should have known from the start. I thought most mail was story spam so never checked/read it and the mails usually include coin.
I don’t really get the economy, at least for low levels since I’m still under level 30, and found that there is really no need to buy gear that often. Most of what I need drops often, unless your really really think spending 45 copper on a chest piece to gain an extra 3 points is important.
Carry harvesting tools from the start. They drop in slots on the hero page and don’t take up room that way. Mats actually seem to have value in the game so it is worth it to harvest them every time you run across a node.
Don’t worry about filling your bags up with mats. You can right click on them in your inventory and send them to your bank from where ever you are without actually having to go to the bank.
The crafting stations actually work as a bank too so you don’t have to run all over the map to get to a bank.
You can use salvage kits to break down worthless items for mats. I generally break down about half of what I don’t need and put the rest on TP for a few extra coin depending on the item. Once again I don’t get the economy and it seem the TP isn’t going to get you much unless you are flipping items. Too many blues drop in my opinion, toss in a 5% magic find bonus and you will never be short on blues.
Visit all the points of interest and vistas as you go near them for XP.
Strafing and dodging is an important tactic in the game instead of just standing in place mashing skill keys.
That’s just a few off the top of my head. Welcome and have fun!

Thank you both for the quick replies.
So the enemies can actually miss, if you move out of the way? That’s pretty sweet!
if you move enough yes, though for those big hits you definitely want to expend endurance on dodging (default key V or double tap but I highly recommend disabling double tap and utilizing V or rebinding it to a button your comfortable with)
As Trogdor said, mats can be sent to the bank from anywhere by right clicking them and Depositing them, but you can also Deposit All Collectibles by clicking the gear in the top right corner of the inventory menu. Also, the deposited materials will be in a special tab at the bank specifically for materials, not in the regular tab, so check both.
And a suggestion for a dodge rebind: put it on a thumb button on your mouse if you have one. You don’t have to move a finger very far to hit dodge that way, which is important for getting them timed correctly.
Some of your skills include a block mechanic which simply means the next hit (within a few seconds of triggering that skill) misses instead. But dodging is big. Circle strafing is big if you have a range weapon. Since you can only attack what’s in front of you, and vice versa, getting behind a critter is also a tactic in reducing hits.
There is no healer. Everyone can rez. Everyone has a heal.
There is no tagging for XP. There is no KSing. You are encouraged to join in to help. You aren’t stealing anyone’s chance of loot. It’s less about formal party play and more about flash mob violence. Popular Dynamic Events (DEs), popular because of a guarantee rare item once a day for everyone participating, will draw huge crowds seemingly out of nowhere. Even normal DEs with average loot will draw in passerby to do them.
Again, check out the link Dasorine posted, lots of useful knowledge there.
RIP City of Heroes
There is no tagging for XP.
Well, yeah, actually there is. However you won’t steal from anyone else by doing so (barring getting it killed before others can tag it).

Sorry, I meant that in some games tagging it first means you were the only one credited with the kill. Important in Kill X of Y quests. Here everyone gets credited even if you only did a relatively small amount of damage to it.

A new set every 10-15 levels is generally sufficient.

Carry a spare set!
Don’t worry about filling your bags up with mats. You can right click on them in your inventory and send them to your bank from where ever you are without actually having to go to the bank.
You can also click on the gear icon on the upper right corner of the inventory window and deposit all of them at once to save on having to click so much.

I break down all white and blue but some lower level greens are actually worth selling on the TP because their vendor price is low but they sell for around the same price as lv80 greens.
