Hello guys, so I have been juggling between all the professions since the 3 day headstart, and I have not even left queensdale yet lol, but I am loving it though. I have to say I have narrowed it down to these 3, I guess I just want peoples opinions to help me push to a single decision. Now a bit about me, I have always played the assassin class in previous games, and been a very competent player, especially in PvP. I was defintley hardcore, but have calmed down a little, but still enjoy an ‘Aggressive’ playstyle meaning, I do not like supporting.

The following is for PvE, I’ve never played WvWvW nor PvP:

Don’t be engineer if you don’t like supporting, from what I’ve seen so far they do low damage and die easily (I have a level 20 engineer)

I don’t have a warrior (I do have a lvl 16ish guardian though), but from what I’ve heard warriors are pretty good.

I originally was going to be a thief, but after some research found out that they don’t do as much damage as warriors, and their skills seem to be mostly for stealth. A video I watched stated that when you’re a thief, by the time you actually kill an enemy, you’re already getting attacked by the last enemy you killed because it respawned while you were taking your time being sneaky and killing the next enemy.

I suggest Warrior out of those 3.

Engineer is really limited in their weapon choice, but seems really op underwater, at least at lower levels. Slinging bombs at things seems a little overkill. I love my Warrior, and it’s my main. You can use so many different weapons that you can’t get bored. I haven’t had much experience with Thief yet.

I’ll tell you based on my knowledge and from a PvP prospective mostly, as I only level with a thief at this moment.

I feel like thieves are where they belong, having lots of utility and can do a big burst if you get your opener straight. They lack resiliance although if you go with the sword/pistol build you’ll get more utility and vitality that you’ll ever need – for a decent amount of damage reduction.

From what I’ve experienced with the Warrior class, it has alot of variety and is very flexible for different playstyles. To me they are a * to fight against since they have alot of vitality and can tear you up in a matter of seconds along with disabling you if they chain it right. I didn’t really get to play as one enough to give you my full personal opinion about them but warriors are looking very good for an aggresive type of player.

Engineering is definitly a proffesion you should look into more if you say you’re looking for a slow pace playstyle. It does require alot of focus and experience to do things right with an engineer but it’s definitly rewarding! Although you’ve mentioned you don’t like supporting and thats what engineers do best in my opinion.

PvE wise I think thieves are the sneaky assasins that need to abuse their stealth in order to maximize their potential, Warriors should be in the frontlines and spank the mobs hard and Engineers are more supportive in a way, dealing less damage compared to most proffesions but having the utilty to boost other’s damage.

Wish you best of luck with your choices :).
And remember, you can always re-roll.

As I only played guardian and engineer so far and engineer mostly I can say this, engineer is extremely versatile and they can do decent dmg with almost unmatched survivability even compared to guardian you just have to know how to use your skills.
Also engineer got more weapon selection than any other class in combat if he/she wants to, engineer is built not around the main weapon but the around the skills you select.

Elixirs = Survival and decent dmg
Turrets = CC or “fortification”
Bomb/Grenade kits = Crowd dmg with Contitions
Flamethrower = dmg / Crowd dmg with burning
Add to that the skills that help you get out of bad situations like slick shoes, Battering Ram, Goggles and Rocket boots.

Just try out what matches your game style and the situation, I usually go Elixirs for PvP and there is nothing wrong with my dmg and I can easily survive 1v1 and often 1v2 and stand a good while against 1v3 if the ones I meet aren’t really good at their classes and got good CC.

My standard sPvP build;
http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.4.8.0.0.0.36.0.0.0.79.90.99.87.102.8.8.7.0.0.0.242.249.0.260.0.0.272.280.282.0.0.0.5.20.15.30.0

Edit: Engineer is far from slow paced but you have focus on your profession skills as well as your weapon skills, people seem to think it’s an spam attack class because the main attack is the one used mostly (cause that’s the only thing without cooldown and the other stuff isn’t made for dmg) but they don’t think about the CC or the boon/condition control etc.

I personally am loving the new Thief I created.. Killing is so much faster then with my Mesmer. I love being able to use daggers and pistols. I actually recorded a video of some of my game play with this new character if your interested. http://easytechsite.com/gaming/guild-wars-2-grind-i-have-rolled-up-a-thief-my-review-thus-far/

Well, there’s alot of Warriors out there, and that says something, obviously. Honestly, Engineer is a good choice, they have so many different weapons which have different play-styles, that you won’t get easily bored with em. Plus who doesn’t like the idea of bringing some real industrial might into a fantasy setting with grenades and napalm?

I can only compare to guardian but can’t say it’s any more slow paced than that and while I can see Thief might for ex. be a bit more intense (in some situations) I think it comes down to your play style more than the profession, every profession is slow paced if you hang back and just do support.
As for support, true that Engineer has good support skills, but that doesn’t mean the class is a pure support class, this as well comes down to play style.
There are three “roles” in GW2
*Damage
*Support
*Control
just like DCUO
An engineer with dmg and crit traits does good dmg, an engineer with healing and boon traits is nice support and for ex. turret traits can be used for control and so on.

This goes for guardian as well and my guess is all the other professions as well, boxing them in to one role only hampers your ability to use the class to its full potential.

Still in my opinion engineers exceels at support and control more than dealing damage. I take control as support for some reason, don’t judge meh.

Warrior if you want to pvp. Trying to solo anyone as an engineer in pvp will either make you reroll or rage quit.

Warriors, Thieves are the best pvp classes in game.

I’ve played all three and the warrior is by far my highest-level character, simply because it’s the most fun. Every time it starts to stagnate, I’ll simply swap to two different weapons and have fun a new way for a while. The heavy armor has also helped me have the easiest time of all my characters with the personal story missions.

Warrior is definitely one of the easiest classes I’ve played. Extreme versatility with heavy armour and a large pool of health, for PvE its well worth a look.

Can’t comment on theives as I’ve not tried one, but my engineer got old VERY fast lol.

I haven’t played Engineer further than “Defense of Shaemoor” so I can’t comment.

My Thief is still fairly low level, but I am slowly developing more of an interest.

My Warrior is third on the list of characters on whom I have lavished the most attention so far (behind Guardian and Elementalist). I love the versatility of all the different weapon combinations and the heavy armour is useful for a player like me who does not always learn from their mistakes…

I think my most enjoyable spell of play this week was escorting the brewer from the Monastery through the swamp with a Flintlock Rifle strapped to my back, with about half a dozen similarly equipped Warriors, pretending I was in Platoon or something.

I’ve played all three of those classes at least through the starter zone (so level 15+). It might change later on, but my experience so far is that the warrior stands far above the other two (and, in fact, most of the classes I’ve played this far). Between the passive regeneration from Healing Signet and the “permament” might from “For Great Justice” I’ve been standing knee deep in up to ten even-level enemies while making shishkabob of everything with my sword/axe. I’ll guarantee you neither my thief, nor my engineer, could do anything remotely like that.

Of course, my warrior is really supposed to be rifle-focused (Ash legion sniper, raar!). And I enjoy my thief and engineer more than the warrior. Go figure. I really like the flexibility of the engineer and the ability to adapt to every situation. As for thief I… uhm, I’m not actually sure what I think. Works pretty well, but they don’t really wow me, nor do they disappoint. It’s just… I don’t know.

In the PvP BGs thief is pretty amazing. Right from the start I was topping the charts, usually with a bucketful of kills, I think 25 kills is the most I’ve got so far.

Things in their favor, are a constant speed buff (depending on build), nice ranged attacks and awesome melee burst which is hard to escape from because it is also a gap closer.

They are kind of easy mode though, you have so many ways to get away and turn the tables.

Downsides are a low health pool (specced for maximum burst), but unless you get one shot you can usually always get away and wait for a better chance to attack.

Warrior is also good but I have found it harder.

Anyway just go to the mists as soon as you can and created one of each and play them a few times.

For Theif I recommend you take shortbow and dagger dagger, its the easiest and most faceroll way.
