I just started playing again after tapering off a few months after the game came out.

My only 80 is an engineer, but the problem I am having is that almost every single recommended build is centered around grenades and I really dislike being so bound to ground-targeted spells. I have a rifle build that’s fun to mess with, but it’s too easy to counter. Turrets are useless, so beyond that I feel locked into a bunker/bomb build, which I don’t mind playing, but I’d like something that’s also effective when I’m not standing on a capture point.

So, I’d like to level up a second 80 and I’m wondering what classes have the most fun roaming WvW builds, preferably that work well in PvE without a huge amount of tweaking, and that don’t rely on GTAoE.

I have a bunch of those instant level to 20 items and birthday buff items, so I should be able to level it up pretty quickly.

I have a Necromancer at 20 already… I know some of their best builds heavily rely on GTAoE, but I don’t know much about them. If there were other viable builds, I’d be open to that.

Warriors seem pretty good? Lots of flexibility to go ranged or melee.

It’s been so long since I played and so much has changed that I’m sort of at a loss, but looking for a change. Suggestions welcome.

For WvW the classes I see wanted the most are either a Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist or Mesmer. The Ele tends to have a lot of ground target skills so that might not be your best choice, unless you decide to run D/D which barely has any. The warrior and guardian don’t usually have any ground target unless you use banners or traits that make certain skills ground targetable. There really aren’t many groups that will say no to an extra Mesmer in their comp as the utility it opens up is awesome but for certain things it MAY require ground target (not as much as nades though)
