Help With Picking Class
Hi, so I basically have been playing Guardian only ever since I got the game mainly due to the laziness to level another toon. However, I feel like it’s time to switch it up and have been trying to look for a new class. I like something that is fast paced and very mobile as I hate moving slowly…
Thief?
How do thief do in general pve? I am not the type who can do super complex things xD.
I would to def say theif. They do good. Wanted in dungeons, with stealth, blind and high dps. Plus the abolity to to “tricks” is fun. Can more very fast in open world too, with skills and shortbow for teleport. Lots of fun
Thieves are mechanically simple (a little more complex than guards as you should try to make good use of fields and leap/blast finishers). They are also the fastest class in the game and I think one of the most important classes to roll if you want to get better at pvp. Understanding thieves is very important when fighting thieves. (mesmer too, but I found it easier to understand mesmer as a thief; my first character and longest main) Its lots of fun, and there are some decent build diversity (about on par with guard).
Give it a shot in pvp, and see how you like it. Otherwise, ranger is even simpler mechanically, and very fun. But I think theorycrafters enjoy ranger more than anyone. I loved planning builds, etc on my ranger, but for me, like guardian, I got bored eventually.
I grew tired of thieves, as I wanted a main that could build tanky if I wanted. thieves are very hard to kill (or die as) if they are on their toes, but almost all builds are pretty squishy when you are feeling lazy. (unlike ranger)
Rangers have to deal with a pet though, which is where a lot of the difficulty comes in. You can ignore it mostly though, but if you want to play at the top of your game, you’ll need to start playing with the pet. Still easier than making careful use of smoke fields.
This is my favorite build with ranger, but its a little harder to master than most ranger builds. (however when you do you become invincible)

Engineer is a class that can also be fast, but most of their stronger builds are more complex. However, you can build some simpler builds and they preform quite well. This class has the most diversity among the classes. I currently main this class and play a very simple, yet strategically complex build.
here is the build:

Good luck and try all of them in heart of the mists.
Mesmer and Elementalist can both be very fast pace.
I’ve never played thief but my observations lead me to the conclusion they are fast, hard to kill, and deadly when played right. Others above also seem to point you in that direction.
Really though, you should just try some different ones! You have character slots and leveling is pretty easy. You might find that something you never expected is tons of fun! Just give it a shot. My first toon was a necro and I had expected to love it coming from other games with similar class but in GW2 it just wasn’t my thing. Turned out that I enjoyed other classes much more.
You’ll never know until you try!
Thieves are very fast—whether you are talking movement, attack skills, whatever. I am relatively new to the game but am in a guild with many people who have been here for years (and have, in some cases, level 80’s of every single class) and the general consensus among them is that well-played thieves are extremely deadly; mediocrely-played thieves (or worse) are squishy and easy to kill. So they are very fast, very mobile, but take a lot of investment in really learning to play the class if you want to be successful. They are not a class for people who are only half-invested; or who want to play GW2 while also watching TV and cooking dinner at the same time.
