Guild Wars 2

I left Guild Wars 2 a long time ago, a little after Scarlet’s invasion of the Queen’s Gauntlet. I got tired of Anet’s balancing decisions and the toxic WvW community of my server (Maguuma).

In any case, I’ve been on a long enough hiatus, and I have that everlasting urge to play an mmo, and until Black Desert Online is released in the US, Gw2 is what I got. I know this could be tedious, but it would be a tremendous help if you ladies and gentlemen could bring me back to speed. How’s the state of WvW (meta?), how is PvE (endgame?), and how’s the class balance (low expectations).

When I left, WvW was zerg vs zerg, and whoever could throw the most bodies at something usually won, PvE was farm farm farm until you got your legendary, then idle in LA. Class balance was when warriors got crazy buffed, after Anet finally admitted after a year that they were under powered and needed reworking. and Elementalists were hit with nerf after nerf, and they also brought up some of the under-used classes (necro, engineer).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m actually kind of excited to get back into an MMO I fell in love with at the start, and your words would definitely make the transition a whole lot smoother. Thanks in advance!

PvE offers a farm for ascended gear now, which isn’t as bad as going for a legendary so it actually seems like you’re making progress :P
elementalists are still a good class, but necro and engineer are still not so used.
WvW is pretty much the same as always and not much more to do for endgame sadly…

WvW = Coverage wins however Mags gets recognition as one of the better roaming servers to go to.
PvE = Some interesting developments (wardrobe) but grinding/TP flipping still the way to get legendary. Lots temporary content.
Class Balance = Warriors have been pulled inline to an extent, people have found something else to complain about now however…..

So pretty much same old same old? Kind of what I expected but I’ll still be playing again. Thanks for the help!

I just came back from a longer time away than you it seems.

I was showing up at random world events and trying to grind a bit, but it wasn’t very fun and I was never able to get into the last dungeon.

DLing client now, but hope to find a guide to bring me up to speed soon. Any help is appreciated.

The best help you could get is from a Guild. Since you left, a lot of little stuff were added to the game, so its hard to make a compilation of everything. Plus, there is like A LOT of this kind of thread, so once in a while, someone really into it will make a good recap of everything, but he usually won’t do that for another thread because that’s a lot of job. At this point, I don’t think that a lot of regular on the forum will do that again lol. But ya a guild will allow you to ask question on a regular basis and get information in small dose when you need it. Otherwise, you will have to go through of lot of writing or find out by yourself in the game (unless you have some precise question for the forum).

On youtube Bog Otter has a “boomerang” series about players coming back into the game. Also Wooden Potatoes does a good summary of all the patches so you can go through the last few major patches for some of the important changes to the game.
