Hey there, I was recently bought Guild Wars and I’m currently loading it into my computer. I was wondering what kind of character I would like as I have no idea.
I really enjoy playing the healer or DPS, and I’m a WoW vet.
I know there is basically no Triad, for different play styles. I really enjoyed playing as the Shaman class in WoW and I was wondering what similar classes there are to that.

I too was a healer (minstrel) in LOTRO, I found the Elementalist close-ish to what I was used to ie keeping out of the way so I don’t get hit so much. Positioning stuff like that.

I also had a warrior type in LOTRO and other games. As you have played that before try it in GW2.

If you are like me your first character will be one to figure out how to play. Warrior isn’t too bad for that and the one I chose first. Skills are easier to learn than with an Elementalist, play is not easy just different. I have to say that “dodging” is very important and I didnt get the hang of that until I played Elementalist, worth bearing in mind.

Warrior level 80, Guardian level 80, Ranger level 80, Thief level 80, Elementalist level 60

Try them all. Seriously, nearly every player I know has started with “Well, in other games I like this, so I’ll take something similar!” and ended up with “Holy kitten, I actually enjoy this class I never expected the most!”

Alternatively, figure out what exactly it is about Shaman that you enjoyed. Putting down totems? Being a hybrid? The spell effects? The look?

Engineers put down turrets, and Rangers can put down Spirits. Guardians are somewhat hybrid-ish, Elementalists have flashy spells. Light Armour comes closest to Shaman armour (as far as I remember it), especially when you include Norn armour.

Sometimes, it can be the smallest things that make us enjoy a class.

If you enjoyed the Shaman in WoW, you might want to consider the Warrior. They drop banners that give various benefits to other players (ie. totems), they can be a melee oriented class (ie. enh shaman) or ranged with rifle/bow (ie. ele shaman) and when traited appropriately can provide a good amount of healing (ie. resto shaman). So you’ve got all three shaman specs wrapped up into one nice and neat package:)

I would recommend Guardian or Warrior for new people. They’re probably the most powerful classes for leveling on your own and they both bring a lot to the group too. Warrior is more dps and Guardian is more healing/ support, but they are both great. I’d give them both a try and see which one you like more. You can take any class into pvp and they will be temporarily auto leveled to 80, so you can see what their different abilities do if you don’t want to invest too much time in leveling them up before deciding.

Just so you know, my main is Thief, so I’m not being biased, I’m considering which class might be most enjoyable to you based on your love of the Shaman class in WoW. :P I do thoroughly enjoy the Guardian though, probably my second favorite class after Thief.
