Hi all,
Noob here. Trying to purchase gathering tools from Leigh in Astoria, but she doesn’t offer them as the wiki suggests. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have to assume that the “New Player Experience” is at fault here and they’re not available to you because your level is too low at the moment.

Anet has confused so many new players with this system instead of streamlining the system for new players with a nice replayable video tutorial system like other large MMO’s.

Anyway, if you find that you just “can’t” something or other, it’s because you’re too low level to do whatever it was. This unfortunately extends all the way to level 80 and you’re just going to have to grind some levels out (monster killing, crafting, maybe even some Edge of the Mists WvW play).

If you go into The Grove (the racial city for Sylvari) and look for merchants with the stack of coins over their head, you’ll be able to buy harvesting tools from them. Get the copper ones to start with. You should also get a full set of harvesting tools once you reach level 9, as a level reward.

First, you won’t find mat nodes until you get into the higher area of that map. Level 6 or 7. 2nd you will be told about gathering mats when you level to 8 and will be given your first set. NPC merchants in the higher levels of that map should have them. Not sure if the nodes only become visible at level 8 and higher.

You can always get them from the NPC merchant in the Grove between the bank and TP.
