Help me pick a class!
You have range attacks with every class. So it basically doesn’t matter which one you choose.
I’d suggest:
Ranger – has a pet (just listed this one)
Necromancer – can do conditional traps & dark shots
Guardian – has protection skills
Elementalist – can do high damage has some conditions
Warrior – can give several supporting buffs
Thief – can be invisible and make people invisible
Mesmer – can create clones (listed this one too… just because)
Guardians are 90% melee. Ranged weapons are staff (midrange & support based) and scepter (lol). As a melee profession, they’re really good. They get my vote. Just don’t expect to play at range.
In my opinion, your ranged options are Ele, Necro, Ranger, Mesmer, Warrior, Engineer. The other classes have ranged options, but none good for staying in them for actual fighting. Their mostly control or support or movement tools.
Engineer is one of my favorite professions, but you’ve already said you don’t want one. Had to mention them though cuz of my own personal bias. No matter what anyone says about their abilities, you can’t deny the overwhelming fun-factor of playing with explosives & flamethrowers.
Necro & Ranger do have that pet issue, although you can choose not to with Necro. Ranger pets got a significant buff Monday so if you can micromanage the pet, you should deal some serious damage. Also, they make leveling easy imo.
Mesmer is (as I understand it) difficult to level until about 30-40. But they’re really great classes for dungeons & WvW. Even with the quickness nerf last month, they still have one of the best elites in the game.
Warriors are generally a melee class, however they can use longbows & rifles, giving them long ranged options. They’re really good in PvE and dungeons. From what I understand, not so great in PvP.
Ele are very dynamic and viable in every aspect of the game. Like mesmers, they take some skill playing them at low levels. Actually, they take skill playing them well at all levels.

Mesmer would give you the most variety at range (or the necro) in my opinion, the only ’’pets’’ you have as a mesmer is your own clones and phantasms and the only micro managing with these are the shattering to get maximum effect, not difficult (more difficult in pvp, though.
Do engineers have good DPS without using kits?
So that i can use my weapon skills and the rest for healing turret and elixers?

At this stage in Engineer development, no. An engineer without a kit is a weak engineer. The pistol/rifle/shield skills are fantastic. But they aren’t enough to dps. That’s what grenades, bombs, wrenches, and flamethrowers are for. Keep in mind though that having 1 kit is the same as typical weapon swapping on any other profession, only without the annoying cooldown. So I can’t see why you wouldn’t want to bring a kit along. It’d be like only having one weapon set equipped on your mesmer.

This is a hard disiscion, how does melee do against dungeon bosses?
Warrior or Guardian with GS as example.

I think you should pick warrior. Their rifle is very good ranged. And they are best at greatsword.
seems like a good idea.

I’m not expert, but my engineer has an exotic rifle and full exotic knight’s armor. Because the #1 skill on the rifle fires slowly and because their rifle’s hardest hitters work better at close range, I’m not sure I’d recommend it for someone strictly wanting ranged dps. The damage is there – and it’s not at all bad damage – but you gotta stick your nose in there to get the most out of it.
I can’t speak for the engineer’s damage capacity with pistols, though; so you’ll have to ask someone else on that matter.
Ok so i’ve been watching some video’s and i want to pick between the Warrior and the Guardian. With a greatsword DPS build (not class cannon though) Any advice for me ?
guardian:
GS and Sword/Focus. Will give you 2 low cooldown gapclosers and some ranged with the off-hand focus.
hmm, does the guardian or warrior have a good build with a shield?
shield is decent for both but often you will find that there are other better off-hands.
But if you like having cc try combining it with a mace and hammer for either profession its alot of fun but you’ll take a hit to the dps output.
Im going with warrior, but im a little selft consiouns about the size i should make him.
I don’t want a long guy but more avarage size like i am in life (176 cm)
