Q:
Help on combat movement using a laptop
Hi!
What you are asking is a bit complicated to explain in words. It’s more about technique.
For 1): It’s mostly about your mouse dexterity skills. Try with higher mouse DPI.
For 2): Your safest bet is releasing your RMB and hitting an attack skill. That will let you “automatically” turn towards the new target.
For 3): Practice your target cycling. Cycle your targets by nearest with TAB. Don’t be afraid to set your new target early – you can (F)inish a downed enemy without actually having them targetted.
Hope this helps! I’ve played on a laptop with and without a mouse (it was fun without a mouse, learning to be effective on a micro-managing level) – and it went well, in the end. Give me a poke, if you want me to show you anything! I’m on EU.
- You can circle strafe an enemy, but all enemies also have a rather wide arch of attack (especially since most weapons “cleave”) and range, so you can’t count on being able to avoid damage in the manner you desire. You MUST learn to dodge to avoid damage in this game. Kiting is good and you should certainly attempt to avoid damage by moving, but it will NOT substitute for well timed dodging when a big hit attack is delivered by an enemy.
- There is an auto target setting in the controls settings, but you should bind the TARGET CLOSEST (and NEXT / PREV) keys and use them to select a target to attack. There is no “auto turn” so your going to have to actually turn to face the target and attack it.
- I can only say there would be no reason for anyone to touch the controls if what you wanted were available.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
- Turn off auto-attack on your skill bar.
- Change up the way your TAB/target-cycling button in config/buttons to target closest target
- Now its a matter of position and targeting, move to the target then TAB/cycle to it/target-it. and Hit 1. This will move/turn your character to your target regardless of which way you are facing, so its just a matter of moving behind/side-ways.
