Hey guys, I have been playing GW2 on an off for a while, I just couldn’t get too into it due to time restraints and some other things, but now I am ready to sit down and have at it! I really like the look of medium leather, however when I look at the classes I get:

Engineer
Thief
Ranger

Oh boy :/. I mainly PvE and would like to stick with ONE character. I am looking to do dungeons and eventually work my way up to higher level fractals. Which one of these would give me less of a headache trying to find a group.

Reading these forums these 3 classes seem to be at the bottom of the barrel.

Edit: by less headaches which one will be easier to get into groups with.

Engineer has by far the best group utility (the big exception being thief’s shadow refuge which specifically can be very useful to a group). You can become a very good support player with lots of healing and a fair amount of boons and condition removal, you can do big time ranged damage, you have some decent CC abilities… there’s lots of versatility for engineers.

But as long as you become good with your class I think you should be able to fit in with a group no matter what. Rangers will always be at a disadvantage in dungeons with pets being what they are now, but better a ranger who can play his class well than a bad thief or engie.

I like both Engineer and Thief a lot. Engi has lots of useful and interesting skills…they are not the best at damage, but can be very helpful in group situations for the reasons that cpg mentioned. As much as I love the class, though, you have to do a little homework and figure out what the best build is for what you want to do; this is true of most classes but especially Engineer, in my experience. There are lots of builds and tips posted online.

Thief is a great solo class that, among other things, is terrific at condition (especially Bleed) stacking, which as you can imagine, sees the usefullness of that particular build diminished immensely in zergs. Not as much utility as Engi, though. Haven’t played Hunter enough to advise on them.
