Hey guys

So basically i’ve never really been interested in MMORPG’s, but GW2 really caught my attention so i bought it.

Obviously i have little experience playing games like this, so naturally i’m struggling to grasp the mechanics of this game.

First i made a Necro; got to level 7 and got really bored of it. Just not my type of character.

I then made a Guardian, now level 11 and i really don’t like it’s playstyle either. Managing all my Signets + heals (which mind you, i don’t really have a large variety yet and im already struggling) made me sorta shy away from continuing to level it up.

So i’m hoping 3rd time lucky works a charm!

Does anyone have any suggestions on what class is noob friendly, doesn’t have a crap tonne of mechanics that i need to be familiar with to play them successfully, and any builds for them/ traits/ skills i should level etc etc?

All help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated ^^

I really like my Ranger… I do a lot of solo play and its nice to have a meat shield with me… also you can spec it to make the pet more powerful, or you can set it up so you can do more damage yourself. I find its the easiest to play so far.

Hey buddy. Glad you pick Gw2 up!
Classes.
A Warrior is your straight up easy to pick up class but on further look has a very interesting development.

Mesmer is pretty cool too if you like a trickster type class. Very cool and interesting. Using illusions to distract and confuse the enemy. Especially a good Mesmer in pvp.

Ranger is quite nice but to me seems like your typical long range dps with pet.

Thief is very versatile using initiative instead of cooldowns. I also feel it’s a trickster class. Very cool stealthing in and out of combat hitting then disappearing.

Elementalist is your typical mage but out can mix it up to go more close range/melee.

This may not be the best help but I try.
If you’re looking for advice or question there are some really cool people to meet. Just click the link in my Sig.

Just try them all out that’s what I did. Currently rocking a War, Thief and Guard.

Ranger is versitile and not boring.
You can fight with bow or close in with mele ( switching when appropriate )meanwhile your pet is involved too. You can constantly charm pets and swap them too.
Try the Ranger is my advice but eventually try them all. I play 4 characters depending on mood …. Ranger my main, Elementalist, Necro and Mesmer ( mesmer is quite different so try that later as well.

I would suggest a Ranger as well, very versatile class. However, a lot depends on your preferred play style, and if you play with a group of friends or solo.

Try to stick with a class until at least level 20 to determine if it is going to work for you.

First off all welcome.
Secondly a little warning: GW2 isn’t the best game to start with if your new to MMO’s The game is designed in such a way that the endgame starts at level 1.

Though this isn’t fully true, they don’t taqke yaou by the hand.
On all my characters I only bring one real healingskill. What is important however is that you always keep on movingand dodging attacks. That way you can lower the damage with 75%.

I would advise you to consider making either a warrior or a ranger.
Warrior are frontline fighters who are dealing heavy damage. beside the dodging (double tab a direction key and you roll into that direction) there isn’t too much tactics involved compared to e.g. the guardian. The downside is that you have to get up close to your enemy’s. Ranger is therefor a good alternative. You use pets and ranged skills to keep a distances between you and your enemy and then you get them down quickly.

The other professions are more complicated, but for a beginning mmo-player not the best pick imo.

Part of me wishes I’d picked a ranger as my first class too, they are nicely versatile. I went with an elementalist as I’ve always been fond of caster classes. They are a little squishy and because, like you, I was new to MMO games I went for build that countered the squishy aspects. I may not be the most powerful elementalist in Tyria but I can stay the course in a fight – always more enjoyable than dying.

And whatever you choose to start off with make sure you give them a decent chance, it took me to about lvl 25 to really get the feel for my main; which weapon combo I preferred, good combos to lay down when fighting with other classes, etc.

Just have fun with it.

To be honest GW2 is one of the easier mmo’s to play in terms of mechanics .specialy skills ..you only have 5 main skills ..1 healing skill 3 utility and 1 elite. You gain an extra 5 skills if you use weapon swaping ..and some clases have f1 to f4 skils.
This compared to a ‘normal’ mmorpg like rift or (i hate to bring it up) WoW, they have loads of skills that can all be out on the UI and and rdy to use.

That said ..a ranger is probably the most ‘noob’ friendly as the pet takes aggro whilst you can take you time and work out what to do.

Dodging deffinatly helps ..but if your used to twitch action games. .then its relativly poor implimentation will drive you crazy :P
