Help with my Engineer?

That aside in what kind of situations are you dying? 1v1? 1v2? 1vtoomany? :P
Are you dying from direct damage or having your health tick away from conditions?
You can upgrade your gear using karma from the heart vendors after completing a heart. For armor you don’t have to keep it too close to your level just keep the difference between your level and your gear to around 10 levels or less.

Maybe it’s the gear? But idk how to gear up without creating a huge dent in my bag’o’gold.
Dont worry to much about your gold when youre low level. Its relatively easy to make gold at higher levels so there is no reason to safe up now.

Double pistol is fine. What uttilities do you use? And what are you aiming for? Do you want to be able to aoe a lot of mobs down, or do you want to go for more single target burst and pick mobs off and burst them down 1 by 1?
There is a lot of room in GW2 for personalized builds and rotations that do end up working and being succesfull in their own way.
On my own engineer i use something close to this double pistol build:
Make sure you use sigils, runes/gems as soon as possible. Especially the sigils are relatively cheap, yet they have a huge effect on your dmg output.
With the right build, the right gear and some practice you should be able to kill 5-6 mobs at the same time.

What’s a good weapon set and utilities for strong AOE? I’m thinking either double pistol or rifle, but I’m not exactly sure about the utilities. I’m thinking of Flame Thrower, Mines, Rocket Boots and I’m not sure on the last one.
Also what’s usually better? Med Kit or Elixir H?
I would say healing turret myself. Although you may go into a more specialised build later, learning how to combo the healing turret with itself will help you alot as you start lvling up as a engi.
The basic combo is: place it, over charge it, detonate it.
If done correctly you will see a large blast of water and thats a big AOE heal and removeal of two conditions.
The how to is: when you press to overcharge it, you will see the turret spin around and release steam ( combo field water ), thats when you want to detonate the turret ( blast finisher effect ). You dont need to wait for the steam once you get the timing, and its even possable on the move too
Once you get the hang of it, you may want to add to your combo and / or try dfferent combo fields

I have an Engineer and I have used double pistols since the beginning.
Remember that you nr3 is a group blind/confuse and it is very usefull if you get overwhelmed.
so is the nr5 glue skill ( cripple/immobilize) and if you are traited for bomb on dodge, so much the better- glue them and dodge- kaboom. ( it doesn’t need a lot of traits if I recall correctly
for heal I use the elixir myself and have never bothered to change it- I also use flametrower and grenades.
TbH my engi really surprised me by how though she was while leveling- I had no problems with her at all

I’m not a number cruncher at all so this has the usual caveat of maybe not being the most efficient way to play engi. I latched onto flamethrower and really practiced positionally keeping the mobs in the flame. Agro the baddie with your pistol, switch to flamethrower, throw up a napalm wall (#4) in front of them, let them run through it once, air blast (#3) them back through the wall, let them come through a third time, then kite around them keeping them in the flames, firing flame jet (#1) and flame blast/detonate (#2) while they burn. If anyone gets too close smoke vent (#5) to blind them or air blast to get them off you. Getting the timing of flame blast and detonate (#2 twice) will get you some good AoE damage. As you progress, trait up your quickness and dodging (there are other good flamethrower traits out there too). My engi is literally doding and rolling all over the place, fire everywhere.
The thing to keep in mind is that the engi isn’t really a melee class. I’m sure there are builds out there that give you some success with close-in melee, but the class shines with ranged control and AoE. Elixir gun is very forgiving at the lower levels, as well as the rifle’s control skills. To play an engi, you have to think like an engi – it’s Christmas morning and you got a sack full of cool toys to play with. Get going with that inquisitive engi mind and just play with all of them!

Im a really big fan of double pistols with bombs + grenades. The main reason is that this combo gives you a lot of tools that help you with kiting and avoiding damage. With this you have an abbundance of blinds, roots and slows so its relatively easy to take on bigger groups of mobs.
I personally use toolkit for my last utti slot but you can use rocketboots aswell to give you some extra mobility.
Flamethrower is doable but gives you less options in terms of soloing 3-5+ mobs at the same time.
The thing I didn’t really like about double pistols is the 3, which is that chain lightning sort of thing. Alot of the times it attracts unnecessary aggro and most of the time that’s what screws me over. Also, with grenades is it just me or are grenades supposed to be pretty weak weapons?
So overall just reading other posts and trying things out, can you guys critique this possible build? I want to be prepared as I level up and not just keep being confused. So i’m thinking Rifle – Power and my 3 tools would be flamethrower, elixir B, bomb kit?
I’m not sure about my tools cause I feel like those might be better with condition?

They are untill you get the grandmaster trait “grenadier” in the top traitline (explosives). Once you get that grenades are almost a must have.

The nice thing about a lot of the engineers uttilities is that they benefit from both power and condi dmg. Both the flamethrower (and its burning) and the bombkit are prime examples.

There are a lot of classguides in there aswell. Mind that these can be posted by anyone so some might be better than others. They should give you a good idea about the various builds that people play tho.
Make sure you experiement a lot with builds aswell (so dont copy paste blindly). Builds tend to influence your playstyle and even the strentgh of your class greatly. So its really worth trying a lot of them out.

After playing around I’ve decided to do a power/rifle build with Flamethrowers, Bomb Kit and Elixir B.
Any help with traits? Or any tips in dealing with multiple enemies? Or more importantly the dreaded ranged enemies where knockbacks and immobilizes don’t help?
