At the suggestion of others, I went to the PvP lands to look in the chest to see the various armor skins available in the game (sans probably some fancy ones, I suppose) and I found one I wanted to try to get that was leather. It’s actually the very first leather set you see in the chest. I think it’s just called “Leather Armor”.

What I don’t know now is how to figure out where to go get that?

Is it something I get with karma points? Are they drops? If they are drops, how do I tell where they drop? I could certainly go farm for them with my highest level character if I knew where to go?

I guess there seems to be a bit of a disconnect there for me, when you find something you like, and you decide to spend money on gems to buy transmutation stones to make sure you always look that way as you level, how do you know where to go get those skins?

Edit: Double-checked and it’s called a ‘Leather Coat’.

Are you looking for PvE or PvP armor?

I can’t tell you how to get the PvP armor, but for the PvE set, it’s named Duelist armor. There may be other variations, but my thief bought some Berserker Duelist armor that matched the appearance of the “leather” armor as the first set in the PvP locker. The armor I bought was level 70-something armor, transmuted onto lower level armor so that my thief can wear it.

Isn’t the “Leather” armor in the PvP chest the stuff that leatherworkers craft in the first 25-50 levels?

Yeah, I was looking for PvE armor.

I guess with no preview function in the Trade Post, there isn’t really a way for me to tell what it looks like before buying anything, so that method is out.

I was hoping maybe there was an option that I could just buy it from a store, or it was a lower level crafting item (only level 50 leatherworking, but working at it).

I really don’t much care for the big coats. They seem to puff out quite a bit on the build I selected for my character as well. Was hoping I could get my things transmuted ASAP, but it sounds like I’m going to have to wait.

Thanks though.

It really depends on which “leather” set you’re referring to in the PvP locker, since there is more than one.

It’s easier to work with screen shots than try to describe things, so I made a quick comparison of the armors discussed in this thread:

I believe there are only two sets in the PvP locker that are listed as just “leather” sets, though I may have missed one. Also, for reference, crafted armor sets for medium go Seeker (very first set, so 0 leatherworking required, though some varieties require 25 or 50 leatherworking), Outlaw (75-125), Noble (rare, 125), Leather (150) — with that last shown in the screen shot above. And… there are more, I’m sure, but my leatherworker is at 181 so I haven’t found the next sets quite yet.

Nkuvu,

Your naming is a bit wrong and confusing in your screenshots. The first you are calling beserker dualist armor doesn’t exist in PvE under that name. according to the wiki Duelist armor in PvE looks like: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:MaleDuelistArmor.jpg

The first one I happen to use on my engineer is reffered to as named medium armor and exist under names named after famous gw1 npc’s:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_set#Named_armor_sets
I actually am using a combo off Shiro’s and Zho’s armor but all medium named armor sets look the same.

Marksman armour looks decent and is easily obtained at lower levels if you don’t want a huge coat. It’s more of a tunic type thing (don’t get the pauldrons – in fact you really only need the jacket, the pants and whatnot look fairly default).

Same set. Male armor looks different than female armor.

My thief is wearing the Berserker Duelist armor, so I’m not sure how you think it’s the wrong name. Want a screen shot? http://i.imgur.com/jzC4a.jpg

Notice that my thief is standing in the middle of Lion’s Arch. This is the PvE set, and I bought it from the trading post. Then transmuted onto armor that my thief could wear, just like I said. I did the same for the pants, though I trust I don’t need to take a screen shot of that too.

And that’s bind on pickup, if I’m not mistaken, so I didn’t mention it.

It’s bind on equip like all armor except the cultural and order ones, and the duelist armor on the wiki looks totally different so thats why im saying its the wrong set (not going to repeat the link to the wiki cause it was in my first post. So please explain how you got yours.

I’ve already explained how I got my armor. Twice.

I bought it. On trading post. Berserker Duelist. Transmuted.

I really can’t make it any more clear than that. I’m not sure why it’s a difficult concept.

This is not the same as the “Duelist” set that’s available from karma vendors in places like Kessex Hills. The Berserker Duelist is exotic level 75+ armor that’s from drops… somewhere. I’d tell you where it drops except that I don’t know, as I bought the armor from the trading post.

Duelist armor from karma vendors for males looks like:
http://www.gw2armor.com/human/male/k2/display_looks.php
The corresponding female set:
http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/k2/display_looks.php

See how the male armor on that page looks completely different from the image on the wiki for the male duelist armor? Gee. Wonder which one is correct. Probably the gw2armor site, since the male version of that set actually matches the female version (see the page Duelist Armor: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Duelist_Armor to see that these are two different styles — wiki is user edited, and sometimes wrong)

Maybe… checking in game would help? There’s a karma vendor at Fort Salma in Kessex Hills that sells the “Duelist” chest piece. See which set it looks like. Then if you have gold to spare, you could buy the Berserker Duelist chest piece and see which set that belongs to.
