So if you use all your points from 1-80 to max out all your specs, that leaves 189 points on the map (according to the map that is) to level up your elite spec. To max it requires 250. Is there some other way of getting hero points that I’m missing?

The map doesn’t list the Hero Points from Hearts of Thorns maps.

The Hero Challenges in Heart of Maguuma give 10 HP each, even you get all HP in core Tyria you’ll still need to go to HoM.

There is no “if” you use your level HPs for the core specs; you must unlock all the core specs before unlocking the elite spec.

I generally recommend doing the HoT HPs because they give 10 points at time, so quicker than core Tyria, and you need to gain HoT xp and mastery points anyway for your various masteries.

It starts out quite slow because you don’t have many movement masteries, but once you have the basics, doing HPs on alts gets much quicker. My 1st character probably took 5-6 days of intense effort, whereas my most recent alt took 2 days of casual wandering.
