I finally got the Hidden Gardens done in Mount Maelstrom. For all the trouble that Chest was (stupid Canticle of the Sun jumping puzzle with a Charr grumble, grumble), I’m really unconvinced it was worth it.

I got two green weapons which weren’t for my class, a medallion, and something else I don’t recall. And I had a fair amount of Magic Find active at the time.

Anyone else find this one not quite worth it? Or does anyone disagree? Maybe I’m just ticked because once you fall to your doom, it’s such a pain in the kitten to get back to the Hidden Gardens.

magic find doesn’t effect chests and yes jumping puzzle chests suck

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

I disagree. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing; it looked nice and it played nice, especially when you get to jump off high platforms into water .

I also have to break it to you that Magic Find does not affect the items in chests. See here : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_Find

First things first: Magic Find does not effect drops from Chests. Only from mobs.

Second thing: Drops from chests are better than drops from mobs. That being said, the rewards are generall 1-3 greens along with 1-2 green upgrade components. They’re usually level appropriate to the zone, but will randomly be level appropriate to you as well. Same as with mob drops in that zone.

As to whether or not it’s worth it? For the gear? No. Not even close. Time:Gear ratio for jumping puzzles is almost always not worth it (Exception being Ogre Den and Trolls Garden(with shortcuts) in lions arch) But you did get an achievement, and the sense of accomplishment from beating a hard/frustrating jumping puzzle.

Well… kitten. Guess I’ve learned something today. haha.

I did have some fun doing the Garden, but the reward seemed like a slap in the face for my achievement. I had to work pretty hard at getting through that jumping puzzle, and every time I failed I had to find another guardian so I can open up that portal. It was frustraiting.

Personally, I do the jumping puzzles because I find them fun and challenging
The chest a the end is just a nice little bonus to keep me at roughly +-0 what with all the travelling costs…

I was excited to find the hidden gardens. I think it’s very cool that there are places like this in the game that you might stumble into, accidentally. I’m not the best at jumping puzzles, but I do just fine if I am allowed time to position myself., etc. I fell off of the one in the hidden gardens once, about three jumps from the end. It would make me very happy to find that there were multiple hidden zones like this in the game. I would try them if there was no chest at all at the end. The fact that there is a chest is indeed a nice little bonus.

Doing jump puzzles for the loot or XP is almost never worth it. Even the shortest, easiest ones don’t reward what most players could get spending the same time farming or doing DE’s.

But if you’re doing it to get the achivement, for the sense of having achieved something or for fun then it’s completely worth it IMO.

I spent an entire Saturday doing the long one in LA and I don’t even remember what I got out the chest but it wasn’t anything worth keeping and didn’t make me a huge amount of money. I still remember how please I felt when I got there and took screen shots standing next to the chest.

I just do JP for first time achievement points and just for the sake of exploring the wondrous world of Tyria, and when Im in LA waiting for a group, Ill do the 3 Jp there and get stuff instead of spamming “LFG for explorable……” the entire time.

I absolutely loved the hidden gardens. Then again, I love jumping puzzles. ^^’ I’ve done that jumping puzzle several times because I really enjoy it
There’s also some diving goggles there, I recall 2. Not sure though.

JP’s allow players to engage in platform style gameplay. Although, it’s not for everyone.

Those who don’t enjoy them or find them hard may tend to get dissapointed with the loot more often.

I do the jump puzzles just because I like exploring and figuring them out. The chest at the end of em shouldn’t be the reason you do them or you’ll sorely disappoint yourself.

If you not they type that likes platforming or getting achievements, jump puzzles probably aren’t for you.

Do jumping puzzles if you enjoy them or if you want the achievement (or both). The chests are useless and not good enough incentive.

Reasons to do hidden gardens:

Jumping puzzle [achievement]
2 Sets of diving goggles [achievement]
It’s a beautiful area/kinda unique
You like jumping puzzles

Good enough for me. Chests from jumping puzzles have never been worth it, unless you’re talking the sanctums (santca?)

Yeah, I guess I come at it from a different perspective than other players.

Being a bigger character, I get frustrated easily by jumping puzzles. The camera freak outs are especially annoying when you’re in danger of falling with a misstep.

And I didn’t think of the Gardens as a “Jumping Puzzle.” I stumbled onto it because I’d beaten the Guardians of the Earth and entered the portal, because…why not? Aside from the Canticle of the Sun jumping puzzle, the other Canticles are more about exploring and defeating some vets. Not so much the platforming.

After getting all four canticles, I just expected more, you know? Though the achievement was kinda nice, I guess? I’ve never been a big achievement bragging rights kinda guy, though.

I’ve always enjoyed exploring the map in games, even ones that don’t encourage it. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to climb onto various bits of scenery knowing there would be absolutely no tangible reward at at the end of it.

I love it when it is encouraged, when wandering into the back of a cave and trying to climb the pile of rocks against the back wall might be nothing or it might be the start of a long puzzle with a chest and an achivement at the end. Not because of what you get out of it, just the fun of finding something hidden and managing to get to it.
