Recently I registered a GW1 account and I now have access of course to the Hall of Monuments, which I’ve visited simply to see what it was.

I just noticed I have 3/5 points in the Hall of Monuments ‘Traveler’ achievement and wonder just HOW?

I’ve done nothing that I can think of there, just visited and got the POI, so what did I do to get these 3 and maybe get some more?

I’ve not played GW1 beyond creating an initial character and wandering about ‘pre’ briefly, so I’m bemused.

The Wiki page merely lists the many achievements in the group without any explanation of how they’re earned.

You get 3 points just for linking your GW1 account with the GW2 account.

EDIT: https://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=welcome
If you check the link, you’ll see that 3 points is the minimum for any account.

Charter Vanguard [CV] – HoD
Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

You get the first three from linking your GW1 & GW2 accounts. Those three are always displayed even if you haven’t linked accounts yet, because you have to do that anyway to make use of them, so they’re effectively a freebee.

To get more points you need to reach HoM in the expansion content. In the hall are five shrines, and you can earn points in different ways at each one. You get one unlocked for free, which gives you points for earning achievements. The others, which are unlocked as you progress through EotN story, give you points for collecting heroes, minis, elite armour sets, & elite weapon skins.

Thanks guys, I’d not seen mention of the 3-point welfare handout.

So, playing EoTN has some benefits for GW2, is there any reason not to immediately start playing EoTN or do I have to go through the base game and expansions in the order they were released, I do have them all?

If you have never played GW1, going to and through EOTN straight without ever played the base campaigns would be like running through GW2’s HoT maps on a non-level 80 GW2 character: you only die. You lack all the skills you are able to buy if you play through the campaigns, and skills are the most important combat aspect in GW1.

If you ask me, reach level 10 and only go to the first outpost in EOTN to get 2 heroes for your party. Then continue with your favorite base campaign. I suggest you start in Nightfall, as Nightfall provides you with heroes for filling up your party and has the best balance between difficulty, learning curve and time required to play through the missions.

Prophecies (the first base campaign) is extremely long and without heroes. Factions (the second base campaing) is extremely short, also without heroes, and probably overwhelming in terms of difficulty for a beginner and for someone who has to learn most stuff alone in a game with dwindling community.

Thanks for those thoughts.

When I played GW1 before (way before GW2) I did so in Prophecies and didn’t really like it, so I stopped. I had read Nightfall was a big improvement for many due to Heroes, so starting there was something I’d considered.

Seems the way to go, cheers.
