When I bought GW2 this afternoon, it said downloading files 77,000…
Later, after several Win8 crashes (which win8 seems to do alot of)
It changed to 220,000 Files.
In the last 9 hours, I’ve reduced this to 157,000 files. Now I realise Support advises to leave the computer on overnight, but I’m wondering how many days of downloading it is actually going to be downloading this patch?

I only get 5mbit download rate. It’s downloaded about 70k files in nearly 10 hours. Does that mean I still have about 20 hours of downloading left?

Right now, gw 2 takes 15 gb or so of my disk space so, unless they stupidly ask you to download every patch in order and not whole new build, it’s no more then that.

I also think it’s stupid that they give number of files to download but nothing about size of patch. Foreseeing how long it take based on number of files, where one file can be either 1kb or 500mb is beyond me. Yeah you have to download 77k of files so it’s somewhere between 77MB and 36GB. Thanks.

The files/size thing is on purpose. Deliberate ignorant attitude towards thier own clients.

At the current rate of windows crashes + the time it takes for me to find out that the pc has crashed. It’s taken me nearly 20 hours to download 115000 files. Since i’ve no idea how big those files are.. i have no idea how long it’s going to take. I am guessing that installing the game from disk is pointless and updating in this manner equally so.

To anyone who hasn’t bought this game… I say, either don’t bother. Or get the digital download. It’s probably the faster way to install the game.

Since I’m not going to sit around all day downloading a patch, nor leave my pc on whilst at work or asleep.

Realistically to download the entire 220000 files will take the avg player a week to download.

So the only question to ask yourself is: Can you be bothered?
