I can’t wait for the Wintersday stuff to end.

Honestly kind of sick of these boxes. What’s their purpose? Is it some kind of hidden skill check? The toy soldiers and princess dolls are about as strong as a group event boss, and there’s around 12 of them at any given time.

Am I just meant to run from these? They oneshotted me at lower levels, and now that I’m level 50, I still can’t kill one before they’ve murdered me.

In 3 days they’ll be gone, until that you can just ignore their existence.

Equip Stability or Stun Breaker skill into a Utility Skill Slot (also, you should always have one).
Run into the gift, press Action. Get knocked down first, then launched. Press Utility Skill. Grab presents (if any).

Run.

RUN!

Last Christmas when they where introduced they where needed to complete the wintersday meta. You could dodge the first knock-back and then attack, now you can’t. The best advice is to just ignore them since there are much better sources of gifts.

Not a problem to my Guardian.
Pop stability, pick up the gifts and run like kitten!

OTOH, it’s no fun at all on classes with no stability. Poor design IMO.

Only class without stability for that would be thief and they can just shadow refuge their way though.

Why run? Defeating the resulting mobs is pretty darn easy – and I’m not even good at the game!

That depends of which mob you get. Some are easy. Some, you’re better off running.

Here’s my tactics for dealing with the various toys:

1. All Skritt. The easiest group. Just chop them down as you see fit.

2. All Plush Griffons. A fairly simple group to deal with as they have no special mechanics. They can do a surprising amount of damage if you just face tank them though, so use a hit-and-move approach.

3. All Toy Soldiers. The toy soldiers come in three variants; a ranged type that attacks with a pop gun, a melee type that has stuns, and a leader type that buffs the other two. The leader should be taken down first, but his buffs aren’t that strong and can usually be ignored. Use the same hit-and-move strategy as with the griffons.

4. All Princess Dolls. A dangerous group due to massive Confusion stacks. However, their weakness is that they only use this attack when you’re close to them. If you keep your distance and use only ranged attacks, you can DPS them down without too much trouble.

5. All Ventari Dolls. Another dangerous group due to massive Retaliation stacks. Do NOT use AoE against these guys; you will kill yourself in seconds. As with the Princess Dolls, the best tactic is to stay at range and focus them down one at a time. This takes longer than the Princess Dolls due to the fact that the Ventari Dolls also like to stack Protection and Regen on each other.

6. All Toy Golems. An extremely annoying group. The Toy Golems come in two types; a ranged type that alternates between stun attacks and normal attacks, and a melee type that spams blinds (when it extends its arms and spins in a circle) and knockdowns. The melee types will chase you around constantly and between them and the long-range stuns, it’s next to impossible to kill them unless you have Stability. Usually if I get this group I just grab the Presents and run.

7. Mixed Group. This is actually one of the easier groups. The Skritt and the toys can be lured into attacking each other, and you can pick off the stragglers. I always kill the Toy Golem first, followed by the Princess Doll, while they duke it out.

I run because there’s no point staying around to fight. The mobs rarely have any loot worth the effort. They hit hard and there are too many of them. It just isn’t worth it.

Something that should just be a bit of fun has been made into a fruitless pain. Most times I simply ignore these boxes.

Running is not a really helpful advice in fact I would never encourage you to run away. Those groups can be quiet challenging which is something you rarely find in the game or at least in the open world. Most of the time it is extremely helpful to start the fight with stability and to deal a lot of AoE damage.

Wow, I am going to totally miss the toy boxes!

They are so much fun, I just about die laughing as I hide behind dolyaks.
And Scarlett? I can just about solo a scarlett pack if I get those wonderful
princesses on my side (and they are hyper aggressive, despite their small
size).

Try it in the time that remains. Hide and snicker behind a dolyak, when the
dolyak battle begins, hide behind some other creature.

The quaggen champ, and champ devourer are also awesome candidates
for a hilarity induction via toy box. Try it, you only have a day or 2 left!

I’m really sorry to hear that we only have a couple of days left.
So much less laughter in game…

Right now their purpose is as an alternative way to get gifts (either for their contents or for their dailies), and to get toys to kill for the achievement. If you have no use for either one, just ignore them.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Tried to kill a group of Princess Dolls once .. when i finally had all down the presents were already despawned.

After that i also switched to equip stability .. fire it if golems .. grab present and run

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
