Q:

Hi. I have bought the game and I do believe it is so fantastic, very much worth my money. It has great graphics, gameplay, fair PvP, almost everything I would hope for in an MMO. However, there is one thing unique in this game that I struggle so much with and I have been dying for help. I have been stuck at the level 1-8 range (highest level 8) because of the fact that I can’t find any quests. Sure, it’s a different feature I am willing to try but I have NO IDEA how to level. I have been doing events and things in that area, but it does not give me NEARLY enough experience to level for the next area, which I always fall behind in level. For example, for all my characters I have gotten to level 8, the next event area’s lowest level was 9. Although difficult, I did finish it but I still didn’t level up to level 9, and then the level 10 event area I could never even begin. I checked youtube videos and people still do not show how to pass it, no body even brings up difficulty in leveling with events, so it may just be my issue. I have fallen to the mercy of those who have leveled far in the game, and I am begging for your help. I want to progress, I want to experience more! Please, I want to level, how do you do it?

Attacking critters that are off the beaten path tend to give more XP. There’s an XP bonus assigned to a critter the longer it survives in the world. Talking 2-3x the XP than one that springs up next to a well traveled path.

Other than that, what zenleto said. Just about everything gives XP including gathering materials, exploring the map, rezzing fallen NPCs and players. And if you tapped out your starting map go to your race’s home city, explore that (meaning find all the points of interest, activate way points and visit vistas, and then take the portal to Lion’s Arch and go to a different race’s home city and do their starter zone. This is one of the easiest games to level in that I’ve played.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

Everything provides xp, except sitting down. You can just roam and redo events as you run into them, or travel to other starter maps and start exploring them. You can travel using the portals in all the capital cities that go via Lions Arch.

But there’s probably much more advice to give you but someone is about to knock on the door Good luck.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Check this guide to learn how to level and what content this game offers for progression and such:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Ultimate-Newb-Guide/first

You’ll have to re-learn everything since GW2 is a different game. There are No Quests.

Enjoy!

We don’t have traditional quests. I am sure you have seen those hearts pop up on the screen often. You can call those ‘quests’ but they aren’t. If you complete what the heart requests you get XP. It’s pretty simple. Also, I have a tendency of taking all of my characters to level from 1-15 over to Metrica Province (you do this by going into the purple, wavy looking portal in the starter area to get into Lion’s Arch and then finding the MP gate from there) because the dynamic events there are usually grouped up nice and easy and repeat often. You can go to the other starter areas to continue with the easier leveling content and just go from there.

Also, gather all the resource nodes you find on the mini map. You will want this stuff later for crafting. You can deposit all of your collections up to a stack of 250 by pressing that gear shaped thing on the top right corner of your inventory window and selecting the deposit all function.

Random NPCs in the game hand out quests (events in this game).

  • If an NPC runs up to you and wants to talk, he has an event for you to do.
  • Look for orange circles on your mini map
  • Look for NPCs with orange icons over their heads, either basket icons or orange star bursts. Those are event sites.
  • If an NPC has a name, s/he is usually one that can give out an event. Most events have a follow up event. After you finish one, wait a bit. See what the NPCs say. Unless that was a finishing event, after a few seconds they will start another one.

I just leveled a ranger to 80, and what I did was, I stayed on 1 map that was appropriate for my level and I explored it entirely. It gives absolutely amazing exp and you get good money and nice rewards for it.

- Take all the waypoints on the map
- Take all vistas on the map
- Take all points of interests on the map
- Take all skillpoints on the map
- Do all hearts on the map

If you are having trouble finding them, google the map you are on to see a completed map. Then you can go through it and see what you are missing.
Later on you will thank yourself for having done it, since getting 100% completion is necessary for crafting legendaries too.

Additionally, when going through the map, participate in any event you come by for even more exp. If you need to know anything else, feel free to pm me in game, I’d be happy to help you.

The official Guildwars 2 Wiki will be your best buddy when trying to find vista’s etc on a map. You should be easily able to level 10 or so in your races starting area at a push even 20. There is so much diversity on how Guildwars 2 works it’s pretty hard not to be able to level after a while.
