How do I set down a bucket? Noob question
there is a button that appears on the left your skill bar (where the weapon swap usually is), clicking that will drop the bucket (or any other thing you pick up).
hope that helps
edit: added picture that shows the button.

Just like nott said, you have a little arrow that appears that you can click on and drop whatever you are holding
it’s not always that simple, Anet doesn’t do consistency. Some things have a ‘drop’ skill, others have a ‘leave’ skill, then there’s the drop bundle arrow on the left. Those first two are in either skill slot 5 or 6.
It’s really not convenient to have multiple things that do exactly the same thing but are ‘different’ just because of semantics.
Usually you can get rid of any kind of “bundle” weapon (anything you pick up that overrides your weapon skills, including buckets of water, elementalist conjured weapons, and in one case even live chicken ) by pressing whatever key you have weapon swap bound to.
In the rare case where that doesn’t work (more often with transformation like the costume brawl potions than with bundle weapons) your only help is to read the individual skill’s tooltips and figure out which one ends the transformation/bundle.

Not to insult OP, because I can totally understand where the confusion comes from, this question is hilarious to me with no context involved. I can’t stop picturing a mighty warrior or cunning mesmer just staring in rage at this bucket in his hands, unable to set it down, and unable to bring themself to release their grip on its handle.
I spent a lot of my early leveling trying to kill things in Diessa Plateau with, variously, a bucket, a chicken, and something else….think it might have been grilled meat or something lol XD

I’m imagining an Asura with a tube of superglue ROFLing around a corner.
