How do orichalcum and ancient logs work now?
1 – Still 3 nodes of each
2 – Nope, still the same possible locations
3 – It respawn 23 hours after you collected the node.
The problem is that you never know in witch instance of the map you’ll get, also the spawn points of the nodes in very wide, that is why people used tools like the gw2nodes to see witch server had the best locations, now you can’t use it properly.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Note all of these are from experience and not anything official:
- AFAIK the number of nodes that spawn in each zone has not changed.
- T6 nodes are usually in North of Frostgorge but can be in North Central as well.
- T6 appears to be different than the lower tiers. I’m unsure of the exact details (and I would question anyone that is absolutely CERTAIN of them as I have never seen an official Anet commment on this). I think it is 8-12 hours or Server Reset for T6.
- Assuming the zone (IP) has not been emptied of characters and reset in that 5 minutes, they would be in the same location. Anet certainly seems to have automated the system so zones (IP) do NOT linger for days on end any longer and the IPs are certainly reused (as attesting to the fact that the GW2nodes website is quite full of incorrect information).
All nodes across the game work the same (as far as I am aware).

Thanks. Basically you both are saying they work the same as ever, I just wind up “guesting” on another server, hence different node location. Multiple times per day comes from somebody’s character hitting different servers, once each.
I’m still not sure why I only find one or two nodes per run. I look visually at the screen as well as the mini map in the corner. I’ve done the runs literally hundreds of times in the past and never been limited to finding only one node. Missing one now and then I write off to inattention.
I’m beginning to suspect some sort of lag in updating the nodes themselves into the scene. The scene is completely rendered, not blinking, but I’ve found I see things pop into the mini map behind me. When I turn and look, there it is, clearly, and in a place I could not possibly have missed as I ran by. Delayed pop, seems like. Maybe I’m running too fast, as I’m usually training, but nothing else but the nodes is popping into the scene as it’s been rendered well before I get to it.

It may be just a streak of bad luck.
I remember to use the gw2nodes to find a server with the best node positions, and some of them had terrible ones, like 1 ori to the south the northeast WP other near the WP close to the HotW and other in a small part of land in the north of the map and some times even worse.

Frostgorge still only has TWO ori and TWO ancient nodes; the Orr zones have more.
Some of the blinking ore node icons is just buggy candy corn nodes.

Now that you mention it, this is correct. Forstgorge has always only had 2 of each. Orr zones have more (but I’m not sure of the number but 5 sounds too high). I have not done repetitive character type farming since Megaserver came out. I usually do full runs thru all Orr zones with one or 2 characters a week and this allows me to promote T5 fairly when I need T6 (or I just buy ingots / planks).

I can confirm that in the middle of the afternoon eastern time, and at a time no where remotely near Jormag’s spawning, I got 2 each of each type on 7 chars by just logging in one after the other and running to them. Waiting until the zone spawned on new IP’s , but prior to reset, resulted in finding the nodes in different locations, but shown as harvested.

Gw2nodes.com is always correct provided you map each map to their proper IP.
Problem is that the maps will change every once in awhile so you have to remap the nodes for the new ip every time. Yet the old map ip, if it ever returns, will have the nodes in the exact same spots you mapped them in before every single time. I tested it with the three Orr maps already.
Gw2nodes is only wrong if people assume they are in the same IP every time on every map they visit.
What I really want done by everyone is to have every map mapped out no matter what for every IP.

Can’t say I agree. Since it’s all user input, I’ve found that very few players are keeping it updated now (since the IPs change and are respawned….much more than “once in a while”, IMO).
I’m not saying it’s never right, or always has bad info, but I’ve found so many mistakes (and I fix them when I find them) that it’s almost not worth trying to use. NOW, if I could PICK which server I entered, it would be a much more valuable resource, but as it stands, it’s very “iffy”.

If you gather from the maps often enough you should eventually get a feel for where all the nodes are. The subset of node locations per map instance is random but the full set of possible locations haven’t changed since release.

I’d had quite a bit of gathering experience before leaving (7 chars fully exotic, 7 or 8 ascended 2H’s or coats) so I knew where they all were some time back, as well as the T2-T5 runs in lower zones. That was then and this is now, and I wasn’t finding them with any reliability at all in FG.
So got help from here, picked out what I needed to update my understanding of what’s going on, and passed back that some times of day we can still run several chars to the same nodes, albeit only 2 nodes of each type now. I had 1+ stacks of each in the bank, so was just learning what ANET had changed.
The game has gone from barely beating the time limit with 8 players on the Frozen Maw, to killing it within 15 seconds of it becoming vulnerable. I don’t mind having more help around, but I wish they’d actually scale things better.

Orr maps have 5 ori ore and 4 ancient log nodes. SSC and FGS both have two of each which SSC does have that rich one by the champ.

Yes, TY. Back when I was gearing all the toons to exotic I ran those zones regularly on the toons with run speed enhanced. After I got the exotic weapons/armor/jewelry, the oric and ancient runs slowed down a lot, since there was no pressing need for them in ascended, and the runs for open world chests (empyreal fragments) began. I’d only do FG for oric and ancient, and then right after the Jormag fight, as I have a toon there. If the run proved relatively quick, I’d log other toons in to run it just to keep around a stack of each in the bank.
Left for 10 months, came back, and no joy on the post Jormag runs, and a new draw on oric and ancient: Sinister gear for a couple of them, and crafted backpacks. Ergo the OP.
Thanks to all on contributed. All is well on the gathering front.
