I’m just looking for a clarification on how the transmutations and wardrobe work together now. Once you have acquired a skin and incorporated it into your wardrobe collection, does it still cost a transmutation charge every time you want to change the look on a piece of armor? For some reason, I was under the impression that once you had used a transmutation charge on a skin – at least for a particular piece of armor – then you would always be able to switch to that skin again without spending another charge.

Yes.
Every time you want to change the skin of a piece of armor/weapon you’ll need to use a transmutation charge.

Nope, you have to pay a charge every time you switch a skin. There are exceptions: achievement skins like the zenith weapons, and HoM skins from gw1. I believe if you buy new skins from the gem store, you get a free set of transmutable skins as well.

Mystic is correct about the transmute being free on first use for gem store armors.

Don’t forget that you can still have an actual second set of armor, so you can still change equipment without incurring a transmute charge.

Basically, if you are transmuting from the wardrobe, you gotta pay for the charge.
If you are transmuting from a item, there is no charge, it simply consume the item.

The biggest change is the wardrobe only skins. You can no longer mix and match item stats and upgrades along with skinning. There are people very upset at the loss of this “feature”.

Technically, TRANSMUTATION no longer exists….only skinning from the wardrobe.

While I love the wardrobe system itself, the loss of the transmutation ability is a huge loss of flexibility in the overall equipment management system.

So, what you are saying is, I can no longer transmute runes/stats onto another piece of armor? wow that really sucks. I have 6 Eagle Runes I need to get off a temple set of armor. kitten , should have done that before the update. I hope Anet fixes this. I dont’ want to buy a whole new set of expensive runes

The problem is that there is nothing broken to be “fixed”, they just removed that feature.

Yeah, the only thing you could do is salvage with black lion kit or something and hope you get all 6 runes back

I think characterizing the issue in those terms is not exactly valid. I think it is more than reasonable for players to request some type of this removed “feature” be available to us via some solution (rather than a very expensive GEM item). At the very least, I would like to hear some comment from ANet on the issue (and as far as I am aware, they have made no comment on the situation or if they plan to do anything about it).

The only problem I see is one that always existed, that is Karma and WvW gear not be salvageble, if it were then you could salvage the gear and get the runes, so again IMO there is nothing to be “fixed”, but a new feature would help the players with expensive runes in un-salvageble gear.

Will add that you never have to spend transmute charges for Hall of Monuments gear.
