I have a few friends playing on Blackgate and I decided that I’m still somewhat new, so I have no problem deleting my lvl 20-30 characters to join them. However, everytime I check, Blackgate is full.

Is this based off how many people are online or how many people have accounts there?

I’ve been checking for a few days now and it’s always been full. What am I suppose to do? Just give up playing with my friends?

I know about Guesting, but I’ve been told that I wouldn’t be able to do WvW with my friends, which is something I was looking forward to. =/

Oh, a question I forgot:

How do I update my server population screen? Do I need to exit out of it? Do I need to leave the character select and then try again?

It’s based on the number of people currently logged in on that server, so wait until the least populated time of day (or the update that was planned for today but was delayed by some amount) and try then.

Incorrect. Server population is determined by the number of players who have chosen a world as their home world.

Trying when population in game is low just increases the chances of being the lucky player who gets the spot opened up by a player transferring off of the server or ANet raising population caps.

WRONG!

Has nothing to do with log in’s. It’s based on Accounts assigned to the home Server.

A player has to transfer to another server to open up a slot to allow a new player to join. Keep in mind hundreds (if not thousands) of players are trying to join those FULL servers at any point in time, so it’s not even a simple as someone leaving….you have to win the competition for that ONE slot when they do.

The only answer to the OPs question is to keep trying.

Bleh, I had yesterday off and I decided to dedicate it to trying to get into BG, no dice. This is so annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I get why the system is in place, but yeah, still annoying.

I maybe spent about 12 hours or so on it yesterday. The only Full server I even saw that changed status was SoS and it changed from Full about 8 times. The rest remained full though. Well SoS and DB which I saw change twice.

On the bright side, at least I know that you have to exit out of character select for it to update, so there’s that. I might just wait until the patch at this point…

Where is your evidence of this statement?

The ONLY time I am aware they have changed the population limits is right before one of the WvW touraments (I think season 2) and they also altered the transfer fees so that low pop servers were FREE, mid ones were slightly reduced and FULL / HIGH charges were increased.

Now I’m not saying they can’t change these and not tell anyone, but if there is actual evidence (or a listing) of them doing this multiple times, I’m not aware of it (and would like to be). If you have such evidence, please link to it.
