I picked up a couple inexpensive copies of HoT to create a couple Alt accounts for various things and I was wondering how you all handle the e-mail side of things?

Do you have to create a whole e-mail account for each Alt account or does Anets system handle the Address+ system? (Where address+alt1@gmail.com and address+alt2@gmail.com would go to the same mailbox but be considered “different” for login purposes, letting you base multiple accounts off one core e-mail address)

Figured I’d see if there was some wizardry I might be missing before just creating gmail accounts.

Your E-Mail account is unique per Guild Wars 2 account, so yes, you will need to create alt-email accounts for your alt-GW2 accounts.

Best of luck.

I use email accounts that go to the same email address, so yes, those work. I don’t know about gmail’s address+ system, though. You can always ask the CS Team.

Good luck.

Interesting, may I ask what system you use?

Those are all unique GW2 addresses, but use a single account.

Mind you, if a hacker breaches one, you lose them all. At the very least, you’ll want different passwords for each.

Ah! Thank you. Yeah I’m pretty careful about not reusing passwords.

All email providers handle name variations like that from Illconceived differently. Spaces cannot be part of the name in most cases.

Usually, you need to create different email addresses, like myacc@example.org, myacc2@example.org, myacc3@example.org.
To consolidate mail for them, most providers provide mail forwarding.

I have 2 GW2 accounts and use distinct email addresses for both, and I use these only for login to GW2. For nothing else. I configured at the mail provider to forward mail for these accounts to my main general-purpose mail account, and in my email client at home I only connect to that account.

This way only Arenanet knows these addresses, and hacks of websites I visit could not reveal them to account thieves. And I only have to monitor my main email account I use for years.

I admit it might be confusing for some people to handle more than 1 email account.

I don’t have multiple GW2 accounts, but I do keep an email specific to GW2 that I never use for anything else. Seems to have worked, it doesn’t get spam.

However, I do have multiple email accounts (I don’t get fancy with the forwarding like Silmar does, though). I corral them all in Mozilla Thunderbird. Each one has a different purpose: RL business contacts, gaming, old junk address that I’ll delete one of these days once I’ve made sure none of my auto-pay bills are using it, etc. They all stack in a tab list on the left side of the panel, it’s super easy to flip between them.

Sadly I think Thunderbird may be vanishing in November when FireFox does its revamp to a much crappier version. I’ll have to find something else that works the same way.
