I don’t get how conditions work against blocks and stuff.

Like whenever I use shield stance (on my warrior for example) I block normal damage but condi damage usually gets through. I don’t know if they are simply traited via retaliation or what…but it gets through the shield. I find it hard to believe that so many use unblockables with condi damage.

If some1 has aegies and u hit them with a condi attack…what happens?
If some1 has aegies and u hit them with a condi aoe….what happens?
If some1 with block walks through ur firefield with the block active…what happens?
If some1 dodges, does the condi they have on them still tick damage?

Just find it confusing.

YOu’d think the answer would be:
nothing
the aegis destroyed the aoe if possible, otherwise it blocks the first tick of a field
block upon entering a fire field will block the field for as long as the block is active
the condi ticks regardless of you dodging

but i just don’t see this happening ingame.

Conditions are applied by attacks. Those attacks can be blocked as long as they are not explicit unblockable (Necro Staff). If those attcks hit you they apply condition X for Y seconds. The damage over time can’t be blocked (only invul and resistance work here). It is the same as direct damage: You cannot block damage which was already applied to you.

If you’re going to be put up against enemies that inflict damaging conditions there’s a good chance that Shield Stance won’t help, especially if they come in the form of AoE. You might want to use a skill that applies resistance to you to render any condition on you temporarily ineffective (esp. if you’re already hit with them) — or switch to Mending which takes 3 of them off while healing you.

I would weigh to Mending if the conditions are particularly lengthy, but some foods can be made that can cut down the length of incoming conditions.
