Q:

How does overflow work? I play on a regular basis with 4 RL friends. Seems we always are having issues grouping up because some are in the overflow. I am guessing this will change as we progress in level and get out of the more populated areas?

Thanks

This has been stated by the Devs. Overflow issues will be less as everyone progresses out of the start zone. To join your buddies join a group right click their name and you should see an option to join it should teleport you to them if I understood correctly.

If you end up on different overflows you can right-click on eachother’s portraits in the group and chose the “join in [zone name]” option. As far as I know it will try to keep the groups together on the same overflow though.

I had the same issue. The way I understand it, you can only “see” people who are on the same server. I believe there are quite a few overflow servers (correct me if I am wrong). Essentially, you can be in the exact same place as your friend and wont see them unless they are in your same server (whether or not you are in a party with them).

The second I travelled from the overflow to the regional server, my friend was able to see me and we were able to join the same events, etc. They way the system works at the moment, you really just need to wait until you work your way to the front of the queue before you can group up, unless you get lucky and join the same overflow.

Edit:

If you end up on different overflows you can right-click on eachother’s portraits in the group and chose the “join in [zone name]” option. As far as I know it will try to keep the groups together on the same overflow though.

Cool, I learned something new, thanks!

Currently there is still an issue occasionally with grouping and overflow servers.
In short, an overflow server happens when the normal zone is very crowded. (Don’t know the exact number of players, sorry)
When people enter the crowded zone, they get auto directed to the overflow. You also get in an virtual line for the normal server. Once its your turn, you get a box offering to join the normal zone or re-join the virtual line for the zone.
If you want to play with your friends however, you can right-click on their names in your friends list and select “invite to party”. If you’re not already in a party of 5 it should give them a box telling them you asked them to join your party.
Once in a party, if you’re on different overflow zones, or one is in the overflow and the other in the normal zone, you can right click their portrait in your party and chose to join their zone.
But even this can occasionally be bugged. So don’t scream at me if it doesn’t work ;p

Another issue might be when one of you is on the main server and the rest are on overflows. You can’t right click that one person and join them, they have to come out of the main server themselves.

And that is a scientific fact!
