How does this game work?
I’m a PvE player that comes to WvW occasionally. There is a game mechanic that I don’t understand. Please someone explain it to me.
I join a squad with a commander. We move around until the commander reaches a particular spot. Then everyone just disappears from view, but not from the squad. When I right click there is no “Joint in xxx” option. I’m left behind and I don’t know where everyone is. They seem to be no longer in the same map.
Help ??
Open up your map, they hopped to one of the bl’s.
If you’ve never been to any of the bl’s you won’t have the wp’s unlocked but you can get to them through the WvW panel.

Thanks for that answer. Why would an entire squad change borderlands? To raid supply?

The bl’s are different from EB. Each server (or pair of servers) has their own home bl with keeps, towers, etc.
Your zerg may be hopping to your home bl to defend or they can be hopping to an enemy bl to capture their stuff. Sometimes you’ll hit their bl to draw them out of EB so you can jump back and go after their stuff in EB.
A lot of the more experienced vet’s spend the majority of their time in the bl’s, especially roamers. You’ll find better quality fights and small group action.

You should ask the squad which teamspeak they are in/using if you desire to follow along more closely and can deal with teamspeak bickering. They should be keeping you informed via squad chat though especially if its open join (you are allowed to join the squad). You can always inquire in squad chat (always) or party chat (if they are all in the same subgroup) on where they went if you get lost.

Each borderland offers the same in terms of gameplay. Meaning each borderland is equal in its importance for the generation of points (more or less). Moving from one to another is generally something people do when they are “stuck” (unable to advance in the current bl), or “moving to defend” (defend something of value in another borderland under attack). There is no objective reason not to change borderlands given players are just as important on one compared to another. The game gives incentive to hold certain objectives that are upgraded or important (keeps/castle)….so things get a bit more complicated if you take that into consideration. From a simplistic perspective though….you can make any borderland your home borderland and each borderland gives the same amount of points so there is no reason to stick to any “one” borderland. Rotating borderlands is the key to success.

The wvw maps are not set up like megaservers in which multiple versions of each are created as the map gets full. The 3 servers in the matchup have their own “home” borderland to defend, eternal battlegrounds is where all 3 meet on pretty equal terms, so 4 maps in total.
There are many reasons to switch maps, attack enemy structures whether to draw them out for fights, just sneak capping, or trying to distract them and pull them from other borderlands that may be getting pressured, going back to home borderland to defend from enemy attacks, and yes even supplying up, etc.
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
