I’m now lvl 34 almost lvl 35 but I have yet to see that event trigger a single time.
Everytime I go there the swamp lies dormant, and whenever I’m somewhere else in the world, I always check that region’s waypoint, but I never see it being contested.

I really want to do that event and face the shadow behemoth… but I never got a chance to do so. (Isn’t this supposed to be a low lvl event?)

What I want to ask is: does this event trigger at random or is there certain requirement that has to be met for the event to trigger? If so, what are those requirements? (I know about the chain event before the boss encounter… but I didn’t even get a chance to do those event chains in the first place)

If it triggers at random, what’s its chance of triggering and is there anyway to tell if the event happening when i’m somewhere else in the world (I certainly don’t want to just sit there and wait for an hour for this event to happen……)?

well, has anyone been able to do that event at all?

Whell i was wondering this whole thing myself.
I personally did it 1 time. Actually got there when some portals got killed and Shadow behemot appeared.

Not sure if those portals are the portals you need for the heart. But it must be some special chain of events or just really random since it does happen really rarely.

I personally found the whole battle lame, since as warrior i missed all portals he opens. (even when i stood on top of them, and no matter where or how i faced them)
And also missed on his head. Could only hit him with bow. And the adds ofc.
Besides the fact the battle itself is boring anyway. All you do is dodge aoe (witch is easy) Kill crappy adds. And Deal Damage (dd) his head when he is screaming….Quite dissapointing, but the battle itself looks cool.

I’ve done that even at least 5 times now and I’m only level 20. It’s a chain of events that ultimately leads to facing the Behemoth. I would suggest doing some events in Queensdale (and/or getting it to 100% if you haven’t already), and you might just see the event spawn.

The chain starts off with portals opening up around the swamp in 3 different areas: Eldvin Monastery, Greatheart Weald, and Taminn Foothills. Once those 3 areas are secured, more portals open in the swamp. Close those portals and the behemoth appears. As for what actually starts the chain, your guess is as good as mine. Some people think farming the swamp triggers it (closing portals, killing aatxes, etc). Personally, I think it’s on a timer.

I am almost positive the event is on a timer, although a lot of people do claim that closing the portals triggers the event. I have seen and participated in the event twice – it is well worth the wait!

I know about the chain events, but even those i’ve never seen them trigger.

I already have 100% completion in queensdale.

I’m currently lvl 34 so going back to do some old events that i’ve done countless times while waiting for a particular event is just not fun.

One day it ran every 30 mins or so …. I believe it did so because of the volume of folks doing the portal event prior to the shadow behemoth appearing… There’s an event just prior where you’re supposed to eliminate the portals and beasts that spawn from them …. It’s similar to the behemoth event but on smaller scale and would make sense in a hierarchy/step/tier method that devs have mentioned happens with dynamic events.

Only if you are in the map when the event triggers.

Nope this was day four I think after launch.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not, but there are events where portals open up in areas you may have already visited…. for example the monastery where they brew ale. If you see that event happen, successfully complete it, and it leads to the 3 portals in the swamp, which then leads to the shadow behemoth. As for what triggers the invasion of the monastery, I have not stayed in Queensdale long enough to find out. (I am a norn)

Rumor is that Scholar Taryn is the trigger for the meta event starting over. Which is when you go through her dialog she’ll open a portal and spawn a demon. Supposively if the event hasnt triggered in roughly last 3 hours this will trigger it. However the swamp event has not triggered in the last 5, going on 6 hours on my server so i have a feeling Arenanet either bugged it last night with update or the trigger is something very stupid that someone hasnt done in the last 4 hours.

Another trigger event is found in the hut in the swamp, where a necromancer is, he has a book he’s afraid to read, read it for the second trigger event…we miss only one now

i just ventured into the swamps yesterday as my Norn and was wondering this too! good to know. i’ll keep an eye out as well.

happened to chance upon the event early on as my alt. it was pretty darn fun. can’t wait to do it again now i know more what i’m doing lol

There has been no confirmation that Scholar Taryn is ANY sort of trigger for this event. This info was on the wiki page but has been removed due to the lack of proof. So, unfortunately, the rumor is just that: a rumor, and quite unsubstantiated. Most boss events are on a timer and I see nothing that says this event is dissimilar.

There’s a similar portal event to Scholar Taryn in the cottage on stilts in the middle of the map.

Yes, that’s the 2nd time that portal event has been mentioned in this thread, but it is irrelevant to the triggering of the Secret in the Swamp event.

I’ve been trying stuff for the past hour and a half to get this meta to start up and I haven’t had any luck. I’ve been in the zone for over 3 hours and the event hasn’t happened.

Anybody have any further luck figuring our what the specific trigger is for getting this event up? I’ve tried looking around for a 3rd book and messing around with the two books in the swamp (the one in the necro hut and the one with Scholar Taryn). I’ve luck with neither, day or night, and no luck when both are up at the same time. All I keep getting is the mob that spawns and then the portal disappears and nothing happens. Leaving the mob up didn’t do anything either.

Any input?
