A:

Pretty sure as long as you remain in the same zone. You can get credit for even partial involvement.

Tag a mob, (or a few). Run away, to the other side of the zone. Event Ends. You get credit =)

Sometimes I do this during escort quests -_- Feel bad about it at times, but… eh..when there are 10 other people following the slow-as-molasses Bull cross country, trying to fight others AOEing mobs to death nearly instantly, it’s hard to even get loot credit. I’m usually on my mesmer.. so aoe is annoying.

There appears not to be any range on event completion currently.

Group swiftness buffs are awesome for this. It’s great to see a herd of oxen/wagons lumbering quickly along (since they don’t actually change stride when running faster). :)

I still confess to occasionally skipping out on escort quests I encounter while running the opposite direction. I’ll help kill stuff if a fight breaks out nearby, then run out and take my silver or w/e.

Yep. I briefly fought one mob that spawned as part of one of the escort DE’s because it happened to be right on top of me, but as I’d done that event recently and was now heading in the opposite direction I didn’t follow it. I was about 1/3 of the way across the map, and had completely forgotten about it, when it ended and I got my bronze medal.

On the other side of things you can stand right in the middle of an event for it’s entire duration and if you don’t do anything you won’t get any reward at all. (This has happened to me at least once when I’ve got AKF in what I thought was a quiet spot.)

You only need to be in the same zone. If you care about getting the gold medal, you need to do some damage, tag some mobs, since DEs do not reward supportive play, only damage. Then you can go your merry way. (Of course, whether that’s a jerk move or not toward other players who remain is a different judgment call.) You can definitely leave the orange circle.

I’ve even gotten medals by accident… while on my way from Point A to Point B I see some red names and because I usually have ranged attacks active I kill a few and go on my way… a few mins later I get a bronze or silver medal from an event I didn’t even realize was happening because I didn’t even get close enough for it to show on my mini-map.

I suspect the reason behind this is that if someone died and didn’t get a rez, they could still get credit for an event they participated in. Perhaps the event is close to ending and they don’t have time to run back from a waypoint. It would be very annoying to participate in events and not get credit. I hope they keep it this way.

It also fits with the non-competetive spirit of the game. AOEs aside, if any mob stays up long enough for you to get even one shot at it, you get credit for the kill, xp and a chance for loot. Same with events, as long as you do something related to the event you should get something for it. Keeps the greedier players from taking all the goodies for themselves.
