I’ve been ordering lots of 250 items, these are bids so they are in the waiting list.

How does the auction works?

Does a seller provide 250 items by himself/herself or anyone can contribute to that requested lot?

Anyone can contribute.

Can you elaborate?

For example, what happens if you held back a lotted order.

Can a single item be sold instantly for a requested lot?

I’m sorry, this is confusing.

There are no such thing as lots. Anyone can sell any number of things.

You are asking for 250 of that item and will pay the price you specified. 1 player or 250 different players could end up selling to you. Same is true when you are selling a stack, could be one player buying or up to 250.

The buy and selling isn’t in blocks to the other people.

If you put up a buy order of 250 soft wood logs, anyone can sell to you up to the 250 you asked for. The same if you put up 250 to sell. Anyone can buy any number from you up to the 250 you are selling.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

To clarify, ordering 250 items at once is the same as ordering 250 times the same item (basically more clicks), and if someone sells any of the ordered items I will receive the corresponding item quantity (being 1, 10 or 250)?

Essentially, yah.

When you order stacks of items, you typically don’t get 1 player selling you all of them unless one player happens to be unloading in masse at the time. What you get more often are random numbers of items in random stacks that eventually add up to your total order.

So if I order, say, 100 Iron Ore, I usually won’t see a single chunk of 100 show up at once. More likely I’ll get stacks of 43, 12, 7, 13, and 25. They show up like that in the pickup window, and what it means is that each stack was sold to you by a different player.

And likewise if you wanted to sell 250 of an item you wouldn’t necessarily sell them all to 1 person.

It will simply show how many of that item have been ordered at that price: 3 people ordering 100, 25 and 125 will appear the same as 1 person ordering 250, your items will simply go to the first orders on the list.
