Q:
How to backup the game files?
I reinstalled windows yesterday to 64 bits (was running 32 bits, but the game has a crashing issue with my vga-driver and I didn’t want to wait anymore for an official solution).
I went to program files/guildwars2 (in 64 bits its in the 32bits program files folder) and copyed the file gw2.dat to my external HD.
After reinstalling windows I started setup and as soon as the update bar was counting up I quit the game, put the gw2.dat from my external hd in the guildwars program folder (replacing the much smaller one setup created) and after that booted the game. No update required. So it went very quickly and easy.
So C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\gw2.dat is the file you need to backup (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\gw2.dat if using a windows 64 bits system)

So the file gw2.dat found in the game’s root folder is the only thing you need to back up then?
Yip, (and maybe the the gw2 folder in my documents if you want to save your screenshots))

yes. backing up DAT File will quickly reinstall the game.
