Hey everyone, I’m looking for any good pvp thieves to answer this for me. I started playing GW2 a couple weeks ago and I’ve spent that time pvping as a ranger. Now I’ve decided to play as a thief and I feel as though my burst doesn’t compare to the thief burst I’ve been seeing from others.

So how do you execute your burst with a D/P thief? Backstab feels like your only real hard hitter outside of heartseeker when your target is 25% hp or lower. I really like how thieves play but compared to my ranger I honestly just feel weak as is.

With hidden killer a Basilik Venom + Backstab + HS will usually be enough to kill any low defense build if they don’t have a break stun or rune of vampirism. You also have a lot of backstab. Like 5-6 in around 20 second. With shadow Shot and auto-attack you also have a huge pressure.

Are you using the meta build with stealth on steal? One way to burst is heartseeker+steal => backstab. Use steal mid-way through the cast, but try to leave it as late as possible. You want to land steal and heartseeker at almost the same time otherwise the heartseeker with reveal you. You will then get stealthed and simply hit 1 to backstab.

Bear in mind that thief isn’t supposed to one-shot things from full hp (unless they’re running a really glassy spec), it’s either used at the same time as someone else’s burst or to finish off a target.

Basilisk venom, assassin’s signet, steal then backstab. You can try the heartseeker into steal combo but the success rate on that depends highly on your skill with it and latency.

Nobody uses assassin’s signet.

Stick with the ranger, everyone hates thieves, you’ll end up getting flamed by everyone unless you are really good, then you’ll only get flamed by the people you kill.

Thief’s currently is a very broken class. The devs have really made it that D/P is the only “good” combo to use, thus making thieves one trick pony’s and easy to counter. Even with a pew pew ranger.
