Q:
How to catch ranger's pets
A:
Alot of times, especially when I zone, when an existing player’s captured pet is at the spawn with me I get the `Charm` prompt but the pet is already captured by the other user. You need to find a Juvenile pet of the type you want in the wild and hit the `Charm` prompt near them.. This has worked for me 100% of the time if I can locate and get close enough, without dying, to the charmable pet.
It might be that the pet you try to charm is the pet of another ranger.
Most captured pet names aren’t changed or gets reset to the initial: “Juvenile <pet name>”.
That’s probably what it is no one seems to rename pets raises hand as a guilty party to not renaming his pets
lol GUILTY…..
oh wait me to
It’s best if the pets automatically changed name to something such as “Tamed Brown Bear”.
I know from Beetletun outside Divinity’s Reach (east end of Queensdale) is Mastiff dogs ready for charming, as is the Polar Bear in the Norn starting area (north west corner). Easiest ones to get, not sure if other home cities have any, not seen any in Lions Arch, Black Citadel or Rata Sum.
I noticed the same thing Ictinike happening to me at waypoints. I guess I am one of the few that did rename my pet (which stays with any pet I tame/charm or switch to) – they are all “Baby Girl” now.
I agree it would be a huge help if tamed pet names were changed from Juvenile to Tamed once a Ranger has tamed them. I too have chased down other players pets in confusion. It does help that guild tags are added on to the pet name. If the player is in a guild we at least know to avoid attempting to tame those pets.
Ok guys i understand i try when i go home thanks to all!
Guild-E-Ball.
In all seriousness, I’m looking for a shark of any kind and a Great White Moa to tame but I simply can’t find any.
a tamable white Moa is in the north of Lornar`s pass, sharks are somewhere in the human starting areas (haven`t found hem yet though).
You may also want to check and make sure your active pet is dismissed. I believe in order to tame a juvenile creature you can’t have an active pet.
Good luck!
Nope an active pet doesn`t matter. To tame a pet you only need to press the F key. You should get a screen with pet stats and abilities on it. At the bottom is a question asking you if you want to equip the pet (yes/no). If you choose no the pet will be available in you pet screen, if you choose yes it will replace you current active pet. Either way the pet is tamed then.
