I’ve had a look at the sticky of what to do at 80, But I’m still a bit confused.

I just hit 80 with my thief.. I’m trying to get a full valkyrie set. And I’ve got all rare gear bought from the TP which is valkyrie. I’ve got my leatherworking and weaponcrafting up to 400 so crafting is an option.
How do I go about getting the best exotic gear atm? Do I need to get last tiers exotic gear and then there is this tiers exotic gear? Does this game even have tiers!?

I hope you can help me in my quest for epic loot.

If you don’t have enough for all pieces, however, check on the TP for the actual armor pieces, chances are it’ll be cheaper than the price of the separate components to craft it.

Correct, Valkyrie armor is only available through crafting.

Shortbow however is through Huntsman, not Weaponsmithing.

Valkyrie armor is only available through crafting. If you’ve just leveled up, you may have a lot of the ingredients already. You will need to purchase the insignia recipe from the master crafter.

Run with your rare gear for a while until you can purchase or craft the stuff you want. You should be fine for a while.

To acquire the ectoplasm you need for the recipes, check this site and run the events, then salvage the rares you get with a master’s salvage kit (or a black lion salvage kit if you have managed to get some of those from dailies, etc.):

I bought all my exotic gear in the BLM with the money I got doing WvW/map completion, selling all mats an salvaging for ectos without having to farm any map/dungeon. The only thing I crafted were trinkets, using the mats I gathered and buying the few ones I didn’t get.

Just in case others look at this for advice…
I initially gear my characters with karma. If you save it while progressing through story and get your dailies, then by the time you hit 80 and get to Straits of Devastation, you should have enough to get an entire set of temple armor. At least I did for my Thief, Guardian and Mesmer and am on track for the same with my Warrior.

Its easy from there to TP the runes you prefer to replace whatever comes in it and use the gold and mats you saved for your weapons.

Temple armor and WvW gear are the cheapest exotics in the game. But temple you come by naturally through the story.

If you are short on Karma, map completion in each of the 3 Orr areas (and Frostgorge?) grants a free exotic that may or may not fit your build, but its enough to get you by until you find something that does. Or you could TP it and buy what you need.
