Hi all,

Returning player, who has come back and taken the free level up.

From what I understand I need hero points to lvl up my Elite to access it’s trait line and abilities.

I have started the storyline for HoT.

Is there another way to get Hero Points?

I really did not buy this game for pve; I find pve is boring.

I bought the game for PvP.

For PvP you can use the elite spec without having to earn hero points. You just select it in the third trait line while in PvP. However, in PvE or WvW you won’t have access to it unless you unlock it with hero points. If you like WvW as well you can earn proofs of heroics that can be used to earn random hero points in either core maps or HoT maps.

I just did it for the 10th time a few weeks back. Given you have everything BUT the 250 needed for elite, (presumably from leveling and from Tyria), drop into HoT zones and start doing the 10x HP ones map by map. Most (75%?) are solo able. Some are just hunt them up and commune, others require killing a Vet and a few adds, and even some of the champ ones are solo able. Others, just start and someone will show up and help.

You only need 25 of them, you won’t be entirely through the 3rd zone and you’ll be done. Takes about an evening. The additional benefit is you’ll learn a lot of the maps.

The Hero Points are worth ten points each in the Heart of Thorn maps, so you only need to complete 25 Hero Point locations to get the 250 points needed for the elite specialization.

Yes, what Greener said about HP’s in HoT. Every one gives you 10 HP.

It’s a vertical zone, with HPs at several levels, requiring gliding, running, riding air currents, etc. Run your gliding masteries up first, with perhaps a pause to get bouncing mushrooms, and a few starter masteries for the 4 zones. However, gliding is the key to sweeping up HP from the zones.

For some, just getting to them is a challenge, but then you just commune to get the HP. No fight. Others the fight is just a Vet + some adds, so you’ll be able to handle it, with maybe a few do overs to learn what the mobs are doing so as to overcome it.

You’ll know immediately when you take a champ that isn’t soloable. You’ll be looking for a waypoint to revive, and some help. Just skip it. You only need 250 and you have 4 maps to do it, with I think around 400 HP available.

The other thing that you can do is go open world in Tyria to fill in blanks if you’re overpressured by the Heart of Maguuma zones. If you do World vs. World, you can indeed get +1 Proof of Heroics and +10 Proof of Heroics with the WvW currency, but do note that doing so automatically completes a standard and HoT hero point, respectively.

So basically any of the hero points you run into as usual will get you what you need for the elite spec. Your auto-80 has the same general getup as a straight-to-80 from levels, minus the level rewards — all the points you get from natural 80. So you’re not disadvantaged in the HP section for elites, just that you didn’t get any open-world HPs.

Can someone please, please explain to me why I paid all this money for the expansion, and I can’t use the elite specializations because there literally aren’t enough hero points for me to unlock it? Literally if I got every single remaining hero point on my map, I would be short. Why. WHYYYyyYyYYYYyYyY

Indeed there are not enough in core maps. You will have to get the rest in the HoT maps. Also as mentioned above you can earn proof of heroics in WvW and use those to buy hero points.
